We also started to customise our model to make it our own.

The model is very capable, however every now and then it will throw a track if debris gets jammed in the rubbery flexible tracks.

The other bug for us is we like to have 1/16 scale models, but this is more like 1/18.5 scale, so although it's a nice model of a Gaz71, it's no good for the 1/16 collection.
I am sure however the parts eing made available for this little thing will go a long way towards being able to scratchbuild or design other working vehicles.
I salut you WPL as we do enjoy the model despite our comments above. I look forward to seeing .ore from this company.

It looks pretty cool, and it doesn't look like it would be that difficult to add some hobby grade Electronics, get rid of the white cap and install a rocket launcher. Yes, I have rocket launchers on the brain lately.

Do you know any place that has them for sale right now? Especially any place in the United states? If you do, please post a link.

Oh yeah, the slideshow is cool, but do you have any video of this thing in action?

Actually tons of them on YouTube right now if you search for "WPL E1". I haven't seen them for sale anywhere in the US yet. I may be selling mine as I'm not impressed with the fact it's so small compared to 1/16 scale. I haven't even charged the battery yet, but I did put all the accessories on it minus the stickers.

I haven't seen them for sale by a us vendor, but you can get them on ebay, and also from banggood and aliexpress. I might order one from eBay when I get home tonight. It says it's supposed to be here by the end of this month or the first week of next month.

What I don't understand about this vehicle is the top. The whole thing is painted camouflage green, and then they put that bright white cap on it, what's up with that? Of course, if I do pick one up that cap will probably be the first thing to go so I can mount some kind of Firepower in the bed. I'm still not sure if I'll get one, the fact that it's so far out of scale is why I hesitate.

On real vehicles this tarp often is the same dark green color as the rest. But sometimes khaki or light grey.

These were made in both a military and a civilian version. It is a GT-SM as the military designation and GAZ-71 as the civilian version sold to the public. Similar to the way a "Beretta 92" civilian pistol is call a "Beretta M9" as the US military designation or the way an AR-15 is an M16 in the military. "AR" stands for Armalite and not "automatic rifle".

I thought it looked awfully small. I guess 1/16 is a marketing tag.

I did a bit of research on these...

if it's 1/16 scale, it should be 33.68 cm long ( 12 7/8 inch)

The narrative on the Aliexpress website claimed it was 30 cm long AND 45 cm long.

If it is 30 cm like the top of the webpage says, it's 1/18 scale.

If it's 45 cm like the bottom of the webpage shows, it's 1/12 scale.

From the movie Will posted, I'm inclined to think it's 1/18 scale.

They look cool and at $60 or so plus shipping, not a bad deal. I may get one just for fun.

1/18.5 scale ish for anyone interested. Also the cabin is too small for that, so the driver is a small cut down dude designed to fit the space.

The main thing this model was missing, was a driver, so after a little modification and chopping, we got a perfect couple of drivers hehe

Yes ok, he has lost his legs from the knees down, but after a wee bit of paint, this guy will look brill sat in the model.

I am tempted to design a new top or a hatch so that i can open the top up so we can have a standing driver.

Hi, Nice thread, I ordered one from the WPL Online Shop in China. Eric at WPL says the Gaz-71 is about 1/20 scale. No matter to me, 1/18 or 1/20 scale, still an interesting model and possible upgrade project. John

I wonder why it's so far off? Most of the rest of their stuff is fairly close to 1/16th, I wonder what went wrong with this one? At any rate, I have one on the way.

Mine showed up yesterday and I have to agree with John, I'm rather underwhelmed. I have quite a few wpl trucks and I think I like those a lot better than this offering. It seems kind of flimsy, I don't think it's going to hold up well to hard use, especially the tracks. It's also way too small, 1/20th scale might actually be optimistic. But it would probably fit just perfect on a G scale railroad. With mine they didn't bother to put it in a separate box like they did with the one they sent to wcp models, they just stuck it in a plastic bag and sent it on its way so when it got here the box was extremely beat up but the molded packaging kept everything inside safe and secure. It seems kind of slow to me, and the control is not the best but for a toy it isn't bad. I don't really have any plans for this one, I thought about putting a rocket launcher in it but due to the inaccuracy in scale I think I'll just stick with the trucks for rocket launchers. If the GAZ-71 is a model that you really like and really want to add to your collection it's not bad, but other than that I don't think I can recommend it as anything but a toy. I might even turn this one into a gift.

But I probably will pick up a driver figure as soon as wcp models puts them on the market.

Default Expectations to high.

Expecting this, not even close. I took the above tip and will gift the Gaz 70 to a 9 year old next door kid!

Default You decide the trucks scale.

The truck sitting next to the Tamiya 1/16 RC Abrams, the toy truck next to a scale model.

The wpl trucks are definitely designed as toys but I think they're fairly close to scale. Most of them appear to be between 1/16 and 1/14th scale. At any rate, I think the trucks are much closer to a true 1/16 scale than the E1 is.
