There was also the clue in this photo of these being die springs! I don't remember them being color coded the last time I saw them ( in use on a punch press die) in the 70s. Is the color coding a (relatively) recent thing?

Not sure about the color coding thing being recent. I doubt it as I bought my die springs probably close to 10 years ago from McMaster Carr. They were color coded so that a machinist can easily tell the difference between the strength of the spring especially once it's loaded onto a die press. I did look at McMaster's site and they have different kinds of colored ones and plain 'ole black ones. I used die springs because they are really stiff and my 1/6th KV-2 weighs over 120lbs as a conservative estimate. The steel tracks alone are 50lbs.

This week, the hole creation of the cast-in-the-caterpillar has been done and assembly has started now.
Hole work is a process that uses a lot of force for simple repetitions.
The track was worked with front and rear connection pinholes and pin fixing bolt holes, which were also screw-tabbed.

In this week's episode, the holes and connections of the cast Caterpillar prepared last time were completed and the sprocket side was held.



Process the pin holes of the cast-type Caterpillar

Make a jig using the sample quantity

The travel distance of the drill blade does not go down to the middle hinge of the track, so hole work using a guide jig is required.

Think about how to secure the track's outer hinge to pierce it

Work on a hole in a jig in a trial way

Use vice pliers together to test holes in the jig

Make the hole wider with a 3.2mm drill blade

How well do those track pads hold paint? Have you thought about using black resin right from the start? That way when the pads wear they would still appear to be black and not Gray.

I know that adding oily ink when making pad for track can make black resin. The addition of these colorants slightly accelerates the curing time. I was worried that this pad would be so hard that it would slip from the lamp used to get the tank out of the car or raise it. So I'm trying to cut a 6.5mm thick rubber plate and attach it to the track to increase grip.

Masking for painting is also performed on the lower part of the vehicle, and sandpaper is used when masking holes

Start reassembling the lower background paint product that was completed last week.

Cut the 9MM thick rubber plate to be installed on the bogie wheel with a knife.

The validity is reviewed by first producing one as a demonstration.
