RE: AEC MKIII SCRATCH BUILD 1/16TH
Thanks,
I started this project in August. Would definately recommend having the running gear on a separate pan. Much easier to make adjustments. I didn't make a set of official plans. Just enough for me to make patterns from. This car has very little info on it so there was alot of photo interpretation and do-overs to make it feel correct. Scale dimensions are right on though.

Just finished the turret traverse and barrel elevation. All functions are done. Now I just need the Tamiya electronics, a bit of detail work and paint.

Paint almost finished. Still need decals, ropes, ration boxes and misc details. Decided to finish the model now and add the Tamiya stuff when I can. Besides, I had nothing else to build on Saturday.
Also, a shot with my carrier. Much easier to transport to the field.

Near final pictures. Still not showing the mirrors and antennas. Hope to run it at Tamiya Con 2007. Dont think it will be battle ready at that time though.

2 more
Ordered a Sherman FO so it will be sharing its electronics and battle system for now. Plan on using Deans connectors to make it somewhat quick to change over. Fortunately, the Sherman electronics are easy to get to.

Too much scratchbuilding and tinkering for me to make a kit from it. I dont have the time for that size project. I am considering a cast hull top for the Sherman. Will have more info later.

RE: AEC MKIII SCRATCH BUILD 1/16TH
is there any way that you could provide scanned copies of the tamplates that you made? so that we can try to make one of these ourselves.
i was thinking that the kyosho half-8 chassis would be great for using to make amoured vehicles like this and would love to have a go using your templates.

RE: AEC MKIII SCRATCH BUILD 1/16TH
Sorry guys, I dont have any templates. Did alot of cut and fit type building on this one. Also, very little information on this particular subject.
This car was a ton of work and I cant see doing another at this time. I am looking for something else that will fit these tires though. Maybe some
sort of support truck

ORIGINAL: FFR2608
Started sanding the tire patterns today. The 2 halves will be glued together and set up for elastomer molding (rubber like tires).
Mocked up the location. Rims will be next.
Man this thing looks much better now. Cant wait to see it running.
TIRES ARE NOT FOR SALE...............

Here is a link to the elastomer I used:
http://www.smooth-on.com/urethanes.asp#vytaflex
used Vytaflex 50. Perfect hardness. Dont have any pictures on the tire process. Rubber mold was 2 part construction cut at the tire C/L

I used an RTV silicone rubber. Ask the tech guys at Smooth-on, they can give you the best material to use.
Tell them what you want to do.

RE: AEC MKIII SCRATCH BUILD 1/16TH
I pulled a lot of Darrin's Mk III info and put it on the SCAT Website, on the Photo page, under Special Projects
http://web.mac.com/ksoc/iWeb/S.C.A.T...0Projects.html
He started with a TEAM Associated 1/18th scale 4wd truck.
You can check out the Mk III and a few other projects our club members have been working one, including Merle's Ferd / Elephant.

RE: AEC MKIII SCRATCH BUILD 1/16TH
Absolutely amazing. How does it perform, is it a fast or slower vehicle. If I had more time and more patience I would like to build a Dodge M37 or an old Duce and a half.
Cheers to you[sm=thumbup.gif]
