Walker BullDog Metal Tracks
Anyone notice that the metal tracks sag immediately? There's too much slack in them, have to take at least one link out on each side, maybe another later after they stretch a bit.

RE: Walker BullDog Metal Tracks
You probably have to wait a bit before you can remove a link(if ever). Even if they look like they have a lot of sag, one track goes a long way to adjusting the length.

Can you perhaps show us a photo indicating just how much slack there is? Some slack is good of course.

Most US tanks, like the Sherman or Bulldog did not have dead tracks and were always kept tight. The weight might be slightly pulling the tank down causing the slack, they probably designed it to be identical to the plastic ones.

I'll see if I can take a picture that's worth posting! Haven't had much success in that department.
Richard, don't despair, they look great. When I put them on the tank had trouble turning then I realized I hadn't charged its battery in 2 months! So I pulled the battery and went to work on the airsoft gun and of course while doing that I ripped out the connectors on the gun motor and broke wires loose. Fun! Luckily I made a diagram beforehand and today all I have to do is find some missing screws to put it back together. I left them right next to the other ones, somehow they walked away! ARGGHH!!!!

Swathdiver,
Mine sagged that much as well, i just pulled one link from each side off, much better.
By the way, i never threw a track when running with that much slack either.
I will try and get a picture with one link removed so you can see the difference, it makes quite a bit of difference

I'm gonna do that too. I drove it around the house over the carpet and saw it trying to trow a track during a turn but no matter how hard I tried it wouldn't.

Kevin you were right, I pulled a link and all that slack went away and then some! To get the links to join up the last roadwheel compressed which would cause the tank to sag in the rear, which it does more easily but still comes back up. So I'll drive it awhile before pulling that link.

The thing I don't like about the metal tracks for this particular tank is that the real tank has rubber pads on each link. Since the plastic tracks are black, you can replicate that by painting the rest of the track and leaving those black, but with metal, you're screwed.. they'll just keep wearing down to silver.

RE: Walker BullDog Metal Tracks
looking at the bulldog and the pershing, they appear similar, so would it be possible to switch out rear gears and switch tread patterns? i know some ppl would hit me for asking that, but the bulldog tread has so much more traction in rough terrain.

Those tankzone tracks are real nice aint they? Almost had a coronary when I saw the price! And that was before they discounted them! All metal is. If I get really board I could cut out the pads from styrene, paint them black and glue them on. NOT!!

I have that kind of slack on the pershing metal tracks and its fine, they dont throw as they cant flex like the plastic ones. As for the pads, you can buy paint on rubber products, just get some and paint them on. You wont get the thickness of course but you will get the effect and some grip.

I guess so, never tried it but I know the products exist.
You could even use black silicone, will take time, put a blob on each pad area, use a wet blade to shape, then trim and tidy when dry with a craft knife. Just make sure you key up the pad area first, very rough.

RE: Walker BullDog Metal Tracks
Spent about an hour today chasing the kids and pets around the yard with the Bulldog. Grass was kinda high and she wouldn't pivot at all, sometimes the track would slip and the sprocket would spin inside the track but try as I might, they never came off. They sound great too, dfferent then the Tiger or Pershing.
The reason for my post. Has anyone seen a video of a real Walker in action? I wonder if they also squat down when underway, especially through resistant terrain. My tank's rear road wheel was almost touching the last return wheel when it was driving. Is it normal? Of the 5 roadwheels per side, only the first and last support the weight of the tank, the others are lightly sprung. My concern is, when I go to add details, heavy barrel and balance out the turret the tank is going to take on some weight, will the suspension handle it? Will I have to place another order with Century Spring?

Here you go, M41A3 Walker Bulldog Metal Tracks with real rubber pads on each link from TankZone:

The thing I don't like about the metal tracks for this particular tank is that the real tank has rubber pads on each link.
