RE: panther g
it was a good kit but i had problems with my sprockets they did not fit the tracks .
when i put them no the drive shafts and screwed them up they where to tight and the track just rode over the teeth
i fix them with a small piece of card between the two halfs of the sprocket

AH..Yes..I also had that problem..what i did was just to "file" on the inside of the teeth of the drive sprocket a little bit....till it fit the track smooth...not really a big deal....wasnt sure if it was just mine ..but it looks like something that has to be done on all of them...

The Panther Schmalturm in the diagrams was intended for the Panther II in 1945 and never went into production. The Turret was made in Kassel and was overrun by British forces before it could be installed on the new up-armored Panther II chassis with KT track & suspension, being produced further south, near Kaiserslautern and captured by US forces .. It carried the same L-70 88mm gun as the Tiger II and incorporated a range finder. Only one example of this turret exists at Bovington Camp. It was inadvetantly dragged down range and shot up before someone realized what it was. Its still at Bovington but kept in the back. The only running example of the Panther II chassis is at Ft Knox, fitted with a standard Panther turret. Be cool to put it on a Panther but would certainly not be historically accurate in any way.

It would be just another example of "What If" from the paper panzers.
Modeling is just an expression.

RE: panther g
Actually the turret shown in the drawing was designed for the Panther F, as on the 1st March 1944 there was a requirement to mount a rangefinder in the turret which was accommodated by installing the turret bulges on either side. This new turret was to be used on a modified Panther ausf G chassis making it the Ausf F. The main armourment would have been the 7.5cm Kw.K.42 with modifications toi the buffer and recuperator being called the 7.5cm Kw.K.44/1.Several turrets where completed by the end of the war One going to America before going missing. one to Bovington used as a target on the ranges it has now been cleaned up and is on display.
The Panther 2 was to have the original Schmallturm and was to be armed with the7.5cm Kw.K.42 and have a muzzle brake the Panther 2 was all but cancelled in 1943.
Cheers Ian

Ian, where did you get the info on the Panther II 1943 version? I have only read that the P II was to be up armored throughout 25 mm thicker...on the inside....and carry the KT's L-70 88 and suspension and fitted with a range finder. The range finder was probably just an adaptation of the standard FA one, as they were pretty accurate. The history I read is as I wrote and is the same as Ft Knox has in front of the Panther II chassis they have. I built a 1;35 scale model of it for them, in a diorama setting undergoing testing...but have never seen it on display. When the British overran Kassel, they did find a dozen or so schmalturms in various stages but only a couple reported to have been complete and one with the gun. It would be interesting to read someone else's historical outline.
