Well go tear one of your other ones apart and rebuild it! Take lots of pictures! Show us to to install a .44 magnum in a Tiger turret or something!
Just teasing you Perry, you've contributed way more then I have!

Here are a few more of my PzIV from DAK's battle day last Saturday. The pic shows the barrel stuck in recoil, but that was the least of my problems in that pic as the tracks were sinking and picking up rocks as I couldn't resist to climb that hill [&o]

RE: Go Buy Some NEW Tanks!!!
Well Mrs. Swathdiver found out how much I've been spending on my little hobby lately and reminded me we could've taken the family on a 7 day cruise (Friends and Family Rates)! Busted! I thought by customizing her tank first, then the girls I could've slipped in a couple of El Mods and some of those new gearboxes! NOT!!! Have to make do with what's on hand, no more parts, books or tanks until the new year. Prices will come down by then, right?
Count: Great looking PZIV! Looks huge and I know what you mean by cringing when I see rocks get under my road wheels! The hill I like to climb has gotten real sandy, even with all the rain and the PZIII and Walker won't climb it anymore. The Pershing eventually made it up, it weighs the most, and has the most weight up front.
Blitz: A Panther with a Tiger plate? Come on now, get your dremel out! If I can do it, anyone can! I see a BUILD in your immediate future!
Pzjgr: Tigers are cool. Thought of doing a couple of platoons of 501 Tigers in Afrika. So far completed a 504 Tiger and started doing a 2 Kompanie 501 Tiger. My 1 Kompanie 501 has started but is on hold. Have two more after that, thought of doing two late war 301s with steel wheels.
Question for you Tamiya owners about the KT. Is the suspension and running gear in the 56007-56008 kits the same as the 56018? Was thinking that rather then getting the Matorro to get the older kit and retrofit with HL spare parts. Keeps all my electronics, barrel elevation, turret ring and motor, etc. the same for commonality but would love to build the kit and asseble that suspension from scratch! Gotta be a Porsche turret too! How about the gearboxes?

Work and the local fires have temporarily stopped my Panzer III project. The fires never got near my house, but I had volunteered with something called CERT. We thought we'd only be needed in times of dire emergency. Turns out when you have 18 + wildfires at the same time in Southern California, you start running out of people, and they consider that an emergency. It was all Base Camp type work, but if freed up the professionals to go do there thing. Some of us even got to hang with Arnold for a bit.

I'm busy working on getting speed controls for my T-34/85 --and converting the other T-34/85 into an SU-100. Don't have a digital; cam so I have to develop and scan film photos. Haven't taken any yet ....

RE: Go Buy Some NEW Tanks!!!
OK, heres a monster of a rebuild job! Converting a HL Pz III to a Japanese type 97 Shinhoto Chi Ha. Didn't realize how much work I got myself into before I stepped into it and took a whiff. Got the front reconfigured pretty much like ther photos only to discover that the bow top was sitting on the motors and gears. Had to build in a piece along the sides of the lower hull to lift the upper section about a half inch. Now everything sits good, but have had to make a couple sections in the front a bit out of proportion to allow it to run. Got a head start on the turret as I had a "spare" when I rebuilt my Pz III Sig 33 105 Howitzer, so only had a couple modifications and additions to do when I got detailed photos from Bill Atwater at APG. I now have the suspension and front about 90% done and will continue on the sides and rear before I do any serious detailing. I have metal tracks with the extra links added to provide the very loose typical Japanese tracks and it runs really nice. Will continue to photo the work as i go, but here it is as of now. May have to send photos in two segments.

RE: Go Buy Some NEW Tanks!!!
rest of the Pz II-Jap 97
suspension is also a bit out of proportion as the Type 97 sprocket is about half the size of the Pz III's, but couldn't find anything that would work, so I just filled in the holes. The road wheels were remedied by adding 5/16 washers and I cut out a styrene circle and drilled holes for the idler wheel. I also lost function of the gun, due to the total difference in gun/mantlet, design and space in the turret. I do have traverse, but no elevation or shooting.
At least when I am done, I will have a running Jap T-97 Shinhoto for my collection. Maybe one day, when I understand more about the gun functions, I will be able get a working gun set up. Fist though, to get through this job of rebuilding the entire chassis.
Won't be a weekend task.

RE: Go Buy Some NEW Tanks!!!
I've added two more 1/6 Stuarts. One will become a prime mover for an arty peice. The other will become a Stuart Maxum once a few more parts are located.
I'm also going to be learning to fly rc planes. A Stuka will be my plane of choice once I spend the next year in training. Maybe two years. I have doubts of a smooth transition from a 325 pound tank to a 1 pound trainer plane. "Why is the left stick not centered? What do you mean no reverse? Up? You mean the barrel? If the battery goes dead it does what? "

RE: Go Buy Some NEW Tanks!!!
Here's something I thought I might like to scratch build a Goliath Light Demolitions Carrier Sd.Kfz.302. These were small remote controled units used by the Germans. They could be controled by radio control or cable controled. I thought about using the track from a pzr3 as it is the closest track to the real thing. Not sure what scale it would work out to be but could use the gearboxes, track and electronics used in the pzr3 and scratchbuild the rest. Here are a cpl youtube's of the Goliath Light Demolitions Carrier Sd.Kfz.302, first one is of a 1-1 scale replica and the second is video of the real thing in action

Actually I don’t mind if you want a copy of the Panther info I have. I started the Panther build last night and I may be selling the Tiger to Perry, but I will end up building it for him (I don’t mind).

RE: Go Buy Some NEW Tanks!!!
I'd just love to buy a 1/16th Leo 2 A5/6, but I'm not in a position to buy a Tamiya version unfortunately. To be honest although I know they are phenomenal models, I cannot justify the outlay for a hobby.
I've seen the "Hobby Engine" versions, and for around the £75 mark ($150 approx) I think they are fine detailed models, but, from reports they are a little "weak" in many areas around electrics / motors etc. Compared to the HL offerings they are also a touch pricey. I know there are 1/24 versions, but I like the impressive look of the 1/16 scale, it is soooooo cool!!
I have my current favourite, the Tiger 1 (originally a non-S&S version but retro-fitted to S&S standard), the Panzer III (again non-s&s but NOT retro fitted yet), and a Pershing (£17 secondhand..bit of work needed to get it even running, but worth it for the price) all HL versions.
Not bad seeing as only four months ago I wasn't remotely interested in r/c tanks!!
Has anyone bought the Hobby Engine Leo? and modded it? (HL gearboxes / electrics perhaps?)
