Default How do I create bent fenders and dings

My Tiger has been done for a while...someone commented that I had missing "fender" pieces but all the others were straight undamaged. How do I make the bends and dings in the fenders?

Thanks in advance

Dennis

Heat gun, hair dryer ... I would start with those.

I once used a hair dryer to "speed up" the drying process and gave a 1/35th scale model warped or bent looking fenders. So I thought I'd try that someday if I wanted a damaged fender look.

For the thick plastic on HL tanks, you might want to first thin out the track guards (fenders) a little toward the outside with a Dremmel tool....that's normally pretty thin metal and HL plastic is pretty thick. I like to use a micro torch, waving it across the part to be bent and use flat nose pliers or heavy treezers to help twist or bend the part. Be aware of what direction you want to bend and how the damage usually occurs. On the corner fenders, damage is normally caused by the tank backing into something or some debree getting caught in the track and bending it in or even upwards. On the Pershing or tanks with track guard braces, the braces are very often broken or torn loose from the welded spots. Many tank crews just discard the corner sections after they get so bent up. Lots of guys use a hair dryer with good results, but I personaly like a micro torch.

I use my soldering iron, place it about 1-2mm away from plastic and use pliers or whatever to mark and bend it after about 30 seconds.

A bic lighter works great, hold the lighter so the heat hits the object but not the direct flame. The plastic will warp and twist on its own, i would suggest helping it with a round object that wont dig into the plastic and leave a mark.

I do the same thing as Swathy, use an old tip as some plastic may get on it.

I use a heat gun. Thinning the plastic with a dremel first is a good idea(Backside of course)

Or if you were willing to spend a few bucks, you could get the Aber photoetch brass fenders and bend them.

Man, when I read all the ideas on how to bend or straighted fenders,[&:] where were you guys when I was using a 10 lb sledge to bang away the bends and dents on fenders we had dinged up in the field, then had to "make em pretty again" and bolt 'em back on. Maybe shoulda suggested using a heat torch.

If you want an advanced method for your fenders, try

How's that T-23 project coming along? Never saw a finished picture of it? Did you finish it?

Just ordered the electronics last week. Once they arrive I will likely be done quickly. The trick for me is getting it done by April for the AMPS convention. The theme this year is Prototypes.

Bye the way, have you ever battled at the Victory museum with MACV?

That was their first battle date at the Museum, since then I have attended many with Lynn and the gang. It's a nice museum and I should be there next April!
