Is this a different IR system then the EGS that tank zone sells? Is it more like a vz tank and not compatible with Tamiya / EL MOD / DBC / DBU ?
As far as the suspension I am sure it is a Panzer III bottom half!

Hey Chuck. So far, IR only, which I'll be pulling on mine right away, anyway, for Blitz's DBU/DBC or El Mods battle system (from Blitz, of course).

It appears the Santou Santa will be arriving early for a few folks this year. Airsoft or IR?

It's not compatible with the Tamiya, El Mod or DBC/DBU - it's more like the VZ version. This is why some of the first units we sell will have your systems installed to make them battle ready.

Cool. Its good to see the first IR units coming out from HL that they told me about in Oct '06 at the SHA Toy Expo. I would not be surprised to see a few British & Russian tanks coming soon, who knows... maybe even a VVSS.

I'll check into this for you and see if these and more different figures are planned. My assumption is the set you set will be the set coming with the tank. I'll get back to you soon.

My understanding is that they are finally getting around to releasing their new line of IR tanks using their own proprietary system following VS & WSN. I would think it makes sense that other models are soon coming since it makes little sense to release just one IR tank.
Am sure they see the need to offer airsoft as well, but knowing past history, who knows when & what you'll get.

Bill,
What's the actual release date for this new Stug. Have been told its yet to go into production.
I checked with several other sellers/trading companies who don't have confirmation yet.

I'd really doubt it. Would make little sense from a mass-production standpoint, and the reason low profile gear boxes exist are due to the cannon elevation mechanism. With the airsoft unit out of the way (IR only for now apparently) HL probably didn't have anything to interfere, or if they did, without an airsoft unit, they probably had plenty of space to shift the electronic parts around, not the motors.

Not necessarily. I have a 1/16 stug III and I was able to fit an airsoft unit in. I did have to cut the top part of the battery compartment for the unit when the gun was elevated.

Just going by what others posted.
From a mass production standpoint, you change as little as possible. For a StuG, you slap a new upper on a III chassis and call it good, given that you can fit the IR stuff out of the way.

Here is my Stug III. You can see I had to cut the battery compartment so the airsoft unit could depress. I use the gun traverse function to either elevate or depress the gun.

RE: 1:16 scale Sturmgeschütz III Ausf.G
I did the same for my Jagdpanzer IV. I did however have to change the battery because of the hight of the vehicle being so low. I initially used the small 1500mih battery the came from my Matorro King Tiger but I wanted something with more juice so I found this Hobbyzone 2800mih battery on ebay. I works great with this set up.

I don't think so, Bill has been pretty good about posting updates here, and the last info he posted (on Jun. 27th) mentioned a release time of 15-25 days, so that would put it somewhere in the date range of July 12th to July 22nd.

RE: 1:16 scale Sturmgeschütz III Ausf.G
Hey all,
The timeline still looks to be accurate as far as getting the production line going. I'm still looking to get some samples sent my way. Just trying to decipher from this forum and emails how many will be needed right away to get you guys going. I did learn last night that the cost to me is going to be about $21 more than what we pay for the PZIII with S&S, which will bring retail around $85-$90. Also working on the shipping details of the samples - typically, we do the samples by air but with the Olympics being in China in a few weeks, their Customs has been very tight about what they let in and out of the country. For instance, we won't be able to receive them with the smoke system or oil (we just had a parts order held up in China Customs until the smoke systems and oil were removed and documentation updated). Hence, I've asked for that to be removed in the samples - just waiting to see if they're will to do that for me. Otherwise, the samples will be shipped via sea, which basically translates to you getting a complete tank (with smoke unit installed), however, also a longer wait. One thing to understand is although those of you who want to order from the first batch (samples) will be the first owners of this new tank, the cost will obviously be higher due to the shipping (shipping small qty rather than the typical container order). I will do whatever I can to absorb or at least subsidize the additional cost for the samples. I'll probably hear back on Sunday night about this and will post the updates then.
Regards,
Bill
