Early KT (non full option) kits are different than the late kits. The bushing kit on ETO is for late KT's that use two bushings on each roadwheel axle and a removeable hub in the center of the roadwheel. Early KT's only had one bushing, a different shaft, and the center hub is not removeable. I know because I've built both the old and new KT and have had the pleasure of installing the ETO kit in the new KT. The ETO setup might work, for an old style, but I'd check it thoroughly.

I upgraded the bushings to bearings on the older style KT however. I did some research using the Boca Bearings website and identified the bearings I wanted. They were 4mm (inside diameter) by 8mm (outside diameter) and just over 3mm thick. You should measure the bushings to be certain though. Using these measurements, I bought the bearings off the infamous online auction site for about $1.50 US ea. (18 bearings in all). Do yourself favor and get one extra for the inevitable screwup.

I'm pretty happy with it, and they turn very smoothly.

Good luck!

Ok I got the early King Tiger kit today alot of the parts look the same as the later model but you can tell its a older kit .
Will have to upgrade the motor to two gear boxes and the turret motor and add elevation with aluminum main gun .
Who else has upgraded this tank and what have you found that works from the later model upgrades .

Thanks
Jimmy

I emailed ETO on the Impact suspension upgrade for the KT and they said it will work just have to relocate the turret traverse if I plan on still using it .
I ordered the aluminum gun barrel and L & R fenders from AAF Tank Museum also .

thanks

Jimmy,

FYI, one of the guys from DAK (our tank club in Phoenix) who posts as "Count Chocula" on RCU has an older style KT just like yours that he is upgrading to a full option battle tank. If you need any tips on how to upgrade the turret traverse, just look him up and PM him. You can tell him Jeff from DAK told you about him, we know each other pretty well. His KT was pretty fast too. I remember he could drive it up shallow hills and actually get some air. I saw your video, and the KT is looking good!

Thanks Jeff
ive been debating to keep the old traverse or not and sorry but the video was one I found by googling my KT is still in the box im doing the planning stage at this time on what todo to it and how ive got a list on the upgrades im writing up as I find them like the suspension from ETO and gun barrel and some of the mounting parts for the barrel ill have to order from tamyia . I seen a post from Willy Lower on changing to impact drives to get scale speed and power it wont be as fast as the one in the video but it will last longer from the battle hits .

Thanks
Jimmy

Jimmy,

If you need parts, just pm me with what you need. I'm finishing a scratch Jagditger project and cannibalized a full option KT to do it. I used the DMD and MF units, but I've tons of spare parts and I'd sell them for less than Tamiya.

Im sure someone will correct me if im wrong but i think Tamiya only put the Porsche turret on the static model, as for after market versions i have never seen one. I have recently brought a 56004 KT myself (secondhand) with lots of bits missing so i have spent a fair bit of time serching for parts

Tamiya did put out at least one RC Porsche turret King Tiger; Kit [link=http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=56007]#56007[/link]
Altough this kit has been discontinued, they can still be found on Evil-Bay; I picked one up a few months ago.

Default Parting out

Watch next week on E-Bay I'm parting out aTamiya KT I'm keeping the chassis and drive. The rest is in nice shape considering it over 30 years old. It's the old one #56004
