It's on again 3 and 9 hours later.

Great idea posting this. I hope it lives up to the first round of Tank Overhaul and I wish they would return to see how far they are with them now.

Great show, I actually laid hands on that Elefant at Aberdeen many years ago. They have all the tigers and their variants there also. Sure wish they would get them in running order like those at Bovington.

Not bad, but they always seem to go off topic and discuss other vehicles like the Paliden which is not even close.

Hi

Anychance someone recorded the program ? I am especially interested in the Elefant, I would really want to get a DVD Copy if possible. Of course paying for the Copy and S&H to me here in Canada. Please let me know if anyone can help as my Satellite Broadcaster did not have this listed and showing on our T.V package.

Thanks, George

As stated above I wish they would cut out all the clouds etc and other vehicles and concentrate on the one they are profiling. Wish they would of shown more of the inside than the about two second one they did. Plus I would hardly call this episode a overhaul More like lets slap some more paint on it and let it rust for another sixty years[]

My thoughts exactly. The Centurion highlights look good. They're even pulling the engine!

Its a shame with all the money wasted on this economic bailout, our own goverment can't seem to find the funds to restore the history that they currently have.
It seems private individuals with the means to do this are our only hope of seeing history truly preserved.

I watched the Elefant episode last week, and was actually disappointed in the show's quality. Looking at a real Elefant made up for it, but: this is one of those shows that uses a lot of fluff to fill the time - saying the same thing over and over again, saying "coming up!", "coming up next", coming up after the break", "coming up when we come back", spending close to half an hour concentrating on taking out a track pin, then having to speed over everything else. They spent a lot of time comparing the Elefant (WW2 tank destroyer) it to the Paladin (modern self propelled artillery). Hmm. I coulda sworn that when they were deciding on a paint scheme, they were looking at an Osprey or Squadron illustration.

I'm recording the series, so we'll see if the quality is consistent, or?

I don't usually comment on these sorts of programs but this one was singularly weak.

I did find the use of the high pressure water jet interesting, although I could have gone a ways without knowing one of the
crew took part of his foot off with one.

As already said I didn't tune in to learn about the Paladin; I found those bits a waste of time. I would have rather watched the fellow fabricating the fenders or doing mundane welding. He seemed to be a very good craftsman.

If it were me I would have made a more valiant effort to determine how the brake came apart to remove the shell fragment and then reform whatever was deformed instead of grinding away metal to get the sprocket back on.

What was with this pseudo 5 week limit on getting it back together? Was it just a producer's sham mechanism to create some fake sense of urgency? I thought crews like their repainting crew did this sort of thing because they liked it.I'm sure they were paid, wouldn't they want to go on record as having taken the extra step? What would have been wrong had they taken an extra day to do a proper disassembly/ reassembly? Why would the museum let them hack what was billed as 1 of a precious few Elefants left? Did their hack destroy whatever glimmer of hope there may have been to get the machine to run again?

On the whole I give them credit for what they did do, it certainly is an improvement. It's pretty easy to throw stones when I wasn't in the hotseat. Jacques Littlefield spoiled me for any lesser restorations. If you've ever seen what he did to the likes of his StuG III, M26 and Panther you'll know what I mean. I also recognize the government elects not to spent much money on their museums.

I'm glad to see they postponed the complete degradation of a rare machine. I see though it will soldier on in the elements?

In summary for those who haven't yet watched it I'd give it a go but don't expect much.

I agree, the Elefant episode should have gone mroe into the actual resto work. Sad, because if you watch Monster Garage, the show is totally focused on the build and fabrication. The bit about the M109 artie could have been left out altogether.

i agree with most of the posts here i would rather watch someone cleaning corruption out of the inside of it over the following
24 odd minutes on the M109
obligitory M1 footage found in every episode
highspeed driving through the countryside

make it more like monster garage
"here is the tank"
"here is what its supposed to look like"
DO IT!

Interesting example of the difference between private ownership (J. Littlefield) and Gov't owned (Aberdeen) ways of handling it.

I'm sure the Proving Gnd could have but together enough expertise to actually restore it to the same quality the Mr Littlefield group would have. As I stated in my previous post I have been to Aberdeen and that have all of the German tanks there as well as other important armor types (including a Christie) that are displayed outside. They may get an occasional paint job but thats about it. Congress can spend $$ on habits of frogs and study of what makes pigs smell...but not on saving historical items thay have there.

Don't want to turn this into a political debate but just remember this come congressional mid term elections......V.T.O.O. Vote Then Out of Office

Its sad that we bailout AIG and then they turn around and put the money in their own pockets as bonuses, but yet we let our history that we already own lay around and slowly rot away, our goverment is so screwed up, I believe there is no way to ever fix it. My hats off to the Littlefields of the world, they are the only hope that our children will ever actually see and hear a ww II tank or aircraft run.

I watched the UK Comet episode - a lot better than the Elefant. This week is the Panther; looking forward to it.

Considering there's only two left in existance, Im surprised they dont, at least keep it stored inside. Has the German government ever spent any money on restoring WWII tanks? Its a part of their history too, even though maybe not the best part.Considering its rarity you would think someone could raise the money for a complete restoration. It was interesting to see what they needed to move such a large peice of equipment. That tank recovery vehicle was pretty impressive in its own right.

The Centurion episode was more what we know that the Tank Overhaul series can produce.

At least I enjoyed!
