Default WWII German fire extinguishers- colors?

I am looking at doing the fire extinguishers for my KT, but there seems to be nothing I can find online stating colors of these fire extinguishers. Were they red, camo'd or what?

Thank you oh wise ones.....

I would make them the color of the tank. Most restored tanks in museums have them red, but I do believe a red part on a tank would not be a good idea.

I've also seen modelers depict them in a gray color, but the color of the tank would be my choice.

I have been informed by several sources that grey is the most appropriate color. Red is the standard US color, but we don't carry them outside, and is not a good color on something you want to hide..

How 'bout that Jose? (Uhu)

Externally they would have been the same color as the tank or grey. Internally they could have been red.
Read the first link has a lot of info.

The fire extinguishers are a shade of grey ( factory finish) or get oversprayed the external tank colour during camouflage repaint. (note this grey is NOT german grey but a bit lighter) Also as represented by the photos, they also got repainted other colours as was the crews want , represented by the black extinguisher. You dont want a red extinguisher that stands out , but you wouldnt want it to be to blended in with the vehicle so as it was awkward to find in a hurry either ? So there is room to move with extinguisher colours !!

Fire Extinguishers on German tanks were Dunkelgrau until February '43 when the base color was then switched to Dunkelgelb. Same for the fire extinguishers.

Red was only used where they couldn't be seen on other AFVs like half-tracks. Your King Tiger would be Dunkelgelb or RAL 7028.

There's an excellent post about this very topic over at Missing-Lynx. Ok, I see Smittyrob posted it already. http://www.network54.com/Forum/47207...sher+%21%21%21
