Default Scratch Jagdtiger 1/16 - KT tamiya

My jagdtiger so far, lenghten the chassis 26.5mm cause the JT was a bit longer than the KT henshell.
The Superstructure is made of 3mm evergreen ABS plates gleued together with PVC fastgleu and the details gleued with Bison Industrial Supergleu, some details soldered for extra strengt, etc ...
The canon was made by Oswald a guy from our SMAZ zelzate modelclub in belgium, it is 28cm long in scale and totaly 36cm, aluminium. The inner drilling is 8mm ...
Everything is scratch made doors, the MG42 standard, moves around and 360° aircover, the canon goto be fastened on a aluplate on the chassis so the canon will not move by collision against wall's etc ( hope not lol )
Here are a few foto's, its began to look dangerous after 15 months about time ...

the camo will be an ardennes '44 tricolor , why there is a tale of 3 jagdtiger on some hill controlled 3days the area they shoot of more then 40 allied tanks on a distance from 2km, there were even hits on 2500m ...
the third day the clouds were gone and the allied command bomb the 3 JT, they were destroyed with mustangs P40's that's all i know off i haven't any tanknumbers or so , would be glad if someone know what devision and number these monsters were.
This demonstrates although they had problems to move, no bridges were strong enough but in a good position, no one was able to kill them, the best allied tanks could make hits on it within 800m the awesome firepower of the Jagdtiger 128mm canon. No match by the allies, not even the pershing could knock him out

Good looking work, Karel. If I were you, I would just go ahead and buy the Wecohe chassis, correct length and all the Tam equpiment is a bolt in. Easy to do.

a few more details of the Jagdtiger

In November of 1944, Krupp proposed to arm Jagdtigers with longer 128mm Pak L/66 gun. The superstructure was be extended over the engine deckto allow for the recoil of the gun. The project was never realized. It was also intended to arm Jagdtiger with 88mm KwK 43 L/71 gun instead of 128mm Pak 44 L/55 gun.In April of 1945, four were armed with 88mm Pak 43 L/71 gun and were designated as Panzerjäger Tiger mit 88mm Pak 43/3 (Sf)Sd.Kfz.185, while those armed with 128mm Pak 44 L/55 were designated Sd.Kfz.186.

A few proven battlefacts of the Jagdtiger

During the begining of March, s.Pz.Jäg.Abt.653 was refitted with repaired Jagdtigers while waiting for orders. 1945-03-11, the unit actually reached its maximum capacity. On the night between 1945-03-15 and 1945-03-16, s.Pz.Jäg.Abt.653 was involved in heavy combat. On 1945-03-15, the Allies had bombarded and afterwards attacked the German positions, and s.Pz.Jäg.Abt.653 was sent out to counter-attack the Allied forces. Neither the Allies, not the Germans, could go anywhere, and both sides recieved heavy losses. The Jagdtigers inflicted heavy casualties among the Allied tanks and infantry, but Allied artillery took several hits, and the Germans needed to tow 21 Jagdtigers away. Later that month, it was proved that the 12,8 cm Pak 80 was capable of taking out Allied tanks at ranges up to 4,000 metres. An Allied Sherman column was all but destroyed by heavy fire, while the Sherman crews panicked. Having called in air suport, s.Pz.Jäg.Abt.653 had to retreat as P-47s showed up. 5 Jagdtiger were hit, of which 4 were destroyed.

At Neustadt, 3 Jagdtigers did manage to take out 25 M10s and Shermans, and although the Jagdtigers took several hits, they didn't suffer any casualties, and were able to withdraw

A third company of s.Pz.Jäg.Abt.512 saw a little action around Paderborn, and although the unit managed to hold the Allies back along with a few Tigers and Tiger IIs, they were destroyed rather quickly

During April, s.Pz.Jäg.Abt.512 saw quite a great deal of action. Especially on 1945-04-09, where the first company managed to engage an Allied column of Shermans and trucks from dug-down positions. Four Jagdtigers, four Sturmgeschütz IIIs and three Pz.Kpfw.IVs opened fire at the same time, and managed to destroy 11 tanks and over 30 softskins. Some of the enemy tanks were hit at more than 4,000 m. The combat unit only lost 1 Jagdtiger as P-47s appeared

The company managed to destroy five Shermans before having to surrender in Iserlohn. The second company still fought on, but with little result. On 1945-04-15, the unit surrendered at Schillerplatz in Iserlohn without fighting.

Conclusion

The Jagdtiger was certainly an impressive creation, and was intimmidating for the Allied crews. Still, it was a waste of steel and manpower, which could have been produced to manufacture Jagdpanthers or Tiger IIs. The extremely low number produced meant, that it had no influence at all on the war. Many Jagdtigers were destroyed by their crews due to machanical failure. One could say that the confidence in the Jagdtiger was also more vital than the results they showed, as Hitler believed strogly in this new wonder-weapon. Today, the only Jagdtigers in existence are Fgst.305004 in Bovington Camp, England, Fgst.305020 at Aberdeen Proving Ground, USA and Fgst.305083 in the Kubinka tank museum, Russia.

A bit off topic, but karel it seems you are interested in the "story" behind things, so I hope this doesn't seem out of place.

I was reading something the other day (and no clue where it was) that said allied claims of armored vehicle kills by allied airpower were GREATLY exaggerated. If true, it was probably not intentional to claim more success than reality, but as I recall, similar happened in the Pacific with the types of ships claimed attacked, those claimed sunk, etc. It makes me wonder when there is talk about allied air power being a deciding factor, how much of an influence it really had, vs. the attrition that came from the crews having to abandon their fuel-less tanks, or those disabled and overrun, etc.

Reason given for ineffectiveness was that *most* warbirds of the time weren't equipped with any guns that could take out a tank, and the other weapons employed were so inaccurate that a hit with rockets or bombs was as much luck as it was skill.

I know I've seen pictures of German tanks torn to pieces from air strikes, but there doesn't seem to be near the amount of gun camera footage nor still photos that indicate air power was as effective as I always assumed it was.

Not to say air power wasn't a factor, but I suspect that based on sheer numbers, allied armor was more often the factor in destroying enemy vehicles. Of cuorse, if we were on an RC warbird forum, I'd be laughed off the board.

you could be right, but most of the jagdtigers who were destroyed in battle were bombed and destroyed not always but at least severe damaged ...
Airpower was also a great advantage for the allies in the Ardennes Offensive, otherwise i could be ended in favor of the germans ... but many german tankdivisions were held up ... in battle i doubt it would be had an other outcome, kampfgrupe Peiper was having the breakthrough lost much time in german traffic and could not be get the needed supply for his vehicles and men ...

yes i think it was a bit too positive what the allies claimed but they were master in the sky, german airforce was as good as wiped out that time
