Great tank!
Im working on the same tank and was thinking on the tower ring...how did you fix that 13 mm? Have any tips? The manual leave a lot to wish for.

RE: Conversion kit for KV1 to KV85
I wasn't sure how to do that either (like you said, the pictures don't tell you much). On mine, I basically found a small plate that was the size of the hole that the turret sits in, and placed it (inverted) on top of the stock hull. I located it so that it sat from the rear of the hull opening to the front of the hull turret ring, (the turret ring measures about 13mm across). I used the plate as a guide and scribed around it several times until I had cut out an arc of plastic that looked like a "Cheshire Cat smile." I spun this piece around 180 degrees, and tack-glued it in place to hold it in position. Then I used Tamiya tape to cover the ragged edges where it joined; flipped the hull top upside-down; and poured a fair amount of 2-part epoxy into the new joint to give it strength. Once the epoxy dried, I peeled off the Tamiya tape; which gave the topside of the joint a smooth surface for the turret to rotate on.
Once I did this, I still had a turret ring that measures the same distance across, but the hole in the turret ring that the turret sits in is now offset pretty close to 13mm forward, (I think that mine came out more like 12mm due to the size of the plate I used). I then glued the "curved side armor pieces" so that they sat at the mid-point of the turret. Looks just like the pictures, now.

Wait; I just re-read what I wrote and realize I screwed up the size of the plate. It wasn't the size of the opening for the turret; it was halfway between the diameter of the turret opening, and the diameter of the turret ring. When you place a plate of that diameter at the rear of the turret opening; the front of the plate will be at the front of the turret ring. THAT'S what gives you the right place to score. Sorry about that, Chief. -Mike

Thanks !
Yes my method was similair
I used the round plate as a guide and scribed around it several times until I had cut a piece of plastic . Then I moved the cutted pieceto the oposite side of the original KV1 turret hole and glued it . Later I even the cutted edges. In such way the hole for turret was moved by 13 mm.

wsn123,
Are you pleased with the Tamiya 3-color WEATHERING MASTER Kit? May I assume the paint will dry or stay a bit wet?
Thanks,

I painted KV-85 using Tamiya TS-28 spray and then Tamiya WEATHERING MASTER Set - when the paint will dry . In my opinion Its very good set and simple way to make the painting much more realistic. In the meantime I repleaced poor HL plastic 2:1 gearbox and exchanged it into metal 5:1 gearbox . Now the tank /with Tamiya KV-1 electronics/ is running very smoothly and realistic. Below some pictures of my KV-85 after painting Tamiya acrylic matt.
