RE: Conversion kit for KV1 to KV85
Thanks for posting, its good to see somebody has picked Juwa Models stuff up and is bringing them over here.
I have their early KV-2 turret here waiting for Tamiya electronics and turret elevation / recoil motors. Its very good for for the money (65 euros + shipping), tho maybe less detailed when compared with Modellino and Imperial Modelbau's (more expensive) kits - the resin is a little softer, and the detail maybe not as crisp. Its going to need a little work to mount the elevation motor and mount the turret to the Heng Long ring (the mounting features are 'sort of' there, but not well defined [&:]). Gun recoil will require a custom barrel making as well (unless I can get hold of Tamiya's).
I'd be interested to see how well the Profiline Kv-85 compares to this - any one have one yet?

RE: Conversion kit for KV1 to KV85
Hi, KV-85 from Profiline is new for this month. I had the opportunity to see parts of this set and I must say that they are perfect. It will be very attractive conversion set on the tank KV.Profiline still preparing KV-1S and for this month is then further developed a comprehensive conversion set for Panther D and A versions.

Man, a few months ago I was so on board with a Profiline KV-85 I even went as far as to get the Tamiya electronics for it. But after they announced the Panther A/D AND the Jagdpanzer L48 conversions, looks like the KV will remain a KV-1.
Besides, the WWII tanks appeal more to me right now than a prototype does. Unless by chance a Centurion happens to be released ... that would be great too!

Are you sure those Famo kits are 1/16 scale, and not the 1/6 scale ones you see on the net? The price is around the same 250 Euro.
If they are 1/16 they would be a great addition to the hobby.

I have just receive Profiline conversion set for KV85
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_96...tm.htm#9603493
Has anybody experience in such kit and modeling resin material too?
Of course there are some pictures on attached CD but there is no information which details/parts / and how?/ from the original Heng Long KV-1 should be removed/modified?
may I ask some questions regarding assembly this kit ???
1. how to connect the turret botom with Heng Long ring? the diameters of the ring and the turret seems to be different
2. how to modify the front of HL KV-1 wchich details should be removed or changed?
3. do I need to cut the one end of the barrel and barrel ring?- where ?- on the picture it is not shown -
is it posiible to drill the barrel to put inside flashing LED a t the tip of it?
4. whart is the best method for cutting resin parts?

RE: Conversion kit for KV1 to KV85
Working with resin kits aren't for the inexperienced. Very costly investment for your first resin model.
Although I can't tell you exactly how to conform this kit to run with HL. I can answer some of your questions regarding how to work with resin.
First things first, before you do anything. You must give the kit a good soaking in soapy water and gently scrub with a tooth brush orsponge, to remove the release agents and oils.
Tools to use are exacto knives, hobby sawblades, dremel, drills, pin viceetc.... Basically tools traditionally used to work with small scale wood and model kits. You'll find that cutting resin is better suited with mini saw blades and use exacto's to trim flash and mold lines away.
After your done with all the necessary trimming. Look for pits and unwanted blemishes. Sometimes, it's common to see pits large enough that you actually have to "repair" and "re-sculpt" a particular detail back into the part.
You can use Mr. Surfacer for small pits or Squadron Green or White putty thinned with liquid cement, acetone, paint thinner, etc and 2 compound epoxy putty for larger holes, pits, andre-sculptingmissing parts, like Milliput, loctite, Epoxy, etc.... Putty can also be used to bond as well, but in this case when bonding two large resin pieces or more...CA glue is the best.
Now when putting pieces together....here's where the experience with working with resin comes into play. Most times, you must find your own way of securing pieces together because there normally are no stand off casted with pieces. Often times you will have to make your own stand offs or some way to temporarily attach pieces together for futureseparationlike tank turrets need.
You'll most likely need to use some of theexistingstand offs from your HL turret and adhere them to your resin turret with a strongindustrialtype cement glue or epoxy.
Hope this help a little, but if I were you...before getting started with this. I'd purchase a 20 dollar resin model so you can getfamiliarwith some of the mentioned steps. Combining resin parts to the HL tank is a fairly advanced project.

RE: Conversion kit for KV1 to KV85
Hi BiggTony it's real nice just like the Panzer III/Stug III Asiatam hull its got the extra side aromor just like the HL plastic hull over the metal frame and man is it heavy you can mount the HL gearboxes in it with some work but the Asiatam low profile just bolts in I got the full metal kit .
Get the full metal kit all the main wheels and the idlers come with ball bearing bearings im going to install the KV-85 turret to it .
The idler mount is adjustable .

Jimmy,
You had me at "heavy." lol!!!
The idler adjustment....this isn't actually a spring tensioner like the Tiger is it? It a tension adjuster?
Looking foward to getting this hull. Phill should be getting them in a week or so.

RE: Conversion kit for KV1 to KV85
Yeah Jimmy, thanks for posting those mighty fine pics! Better than retailers pics for sure!
That's a whole lot of metal!! Seems to me its far more worth the price than the similar price for the PIII I just paid. Again, that's a whole lot of metal!!
Phil's getting the ones with early road wheels, which Iprefer, Gotta make sure they come with bearings over bushings though.

Yes but unless you get the Tamiya Panzer IV lower hull and all its goody's you still have to stick to the HL plastic hull .

Hello
some pictures from conversion of my KV-1 using Profilline KV-85 set.
1. base model KV-1 Heng Long and Profiline KV-85 resin conversion set
2. Tamiya KV-1 electronics
3. I used an old plastic barrel from my second WSN T34 because the original was made from resin and wasn't drilled
4. I also mounted inside the turret: Tamiya recoil unit , Tamiya gun flash unit and gun elevation unit
5. The original Heng Long hull ring was moved by 13mm /to the front of the tank/ - as it was described in Profiline manual
