Default DAK APRIL BATTLE

Since EDoubleAZ hasn't started a thread yet and the battle is only 3 days away, I have taken the liberty to begin the thread for the DAK APRIL BATTLE DAY on Saturday the 10th.

I am particularly looking forward to this one since this time, it will be my first Battle Day with my own tank where I am present for the entire event, instead of arriving when it is half over. Tiger 931 is repaired and ready for action! It has one new capability that it has never been able to perform before, which of course is top secret! Until I display this capability at the field that is..

I'm can hardly wait for this Battle.. This is Götterdämmerung!! And in April too, how appropriate.

I’m in!

Secrets again is it? Unless you have a new clocking device it won’t save you… And I find those red stars make very nice targets.[X(]

See you there,

Dug - This is my Götterdämmerung! When I say secret I mean, Wunderwaffe stuff.. I may make an exception just for you Dug, and actually fight on the Allied team for one battle, just so you'll get a chance to shoot at my red stars. Otherwise, unless your not driving German armor, your gonna be fighting on my side Sir.

RSEA, I see that you have realized our superiority and have come over to the Dark Side. We will be victorious. The Green forces have no chance against our advanced equipment and exceptional tactics.[sm=wink_smile.gif]

Pzjgr, I think I know what you have, but did you really buy one and get it built that fast? Cool...[sm=shades_smile.gif]

I have one reply for the usual German loving crowd. Try making some spare parts! How many of your vehicles were lost to fuel pump or gearbox issues?

Yes the Allies faired badly tank v tank but on the western front, we spent most of our time avoiding the horse manure! Tiger tanks supported by horse drawn supply carts means deserted, broke down Tigers.

If you want a Sherman success story, try the battle of Arracourt. The 37th tank battalion took on two armored brigades of Panthers and PZ IVs and wrang up a lopsided 48-6 margin of victory. (The fog helped)

The Sherman wasn't the best tank on the field but still managed to give as good as it got. I believe tactics (and alot of luck) are what wins most fights. The German vehicles excelled at long range duels as the battles around Caen showed after D-Day. Operation Goodwood left 300 burned out Commonwealth Shermans in rolling fields, but the failure to manuever was in the leadership. Frontal assaults should have gone out with Red Coats.

As per the battleday, I believe our theme will be "Calm Before The Storm" This period of 1940 was the "Phony War" period where the Germans were consolidating eastern gains and looking back to the west. Our next event in May will definitely be christened "BLITZKREIG"

The "Calm Before The Storm" seems apt. Our cool calm cats will go over you on the battlefield like a thunder storm leaving you in shock and awe.[X(]

We're all packed and ready to go.  Bringing 6 tanks, two of which are making their debut.  One is a prototype TD which is going to be a nasty surprise for the Jerrys.

As usual I had a fabulous day! Perfect weather, big crowd and good friends. Looks like we may have gained three or four new members, which is great. We had quite a few seven on seven battles. I lost count of how many battles we actually had. There seemed to be more battles than just free-for-alls this time. We also saw three new tanks by Aimee (Leo), Jeff (Su-85) and Duane (Pzr IV). Special thanks to our crew: Ethan for set up, Dave and Aimee for BBQ, and Everyone for helping teardown. Great pictures Ethan!!

From what I remember the Allies vs. Axis engagements came out close to even with a slight nod to the Axis. We, the Dark Side, can no longer say, “Get Ethan, then we’ll just roll up the others,†like we usually do. Joseph, John and Dave have become very good fighters and are hard to knock out now. Of course Team Green had some help from Dark Side regulars Jeff, who brought out his new SU-85 and his Pershing which we haven’t seen for a long time, and Duane and I both used my M-36 Jackson a couple of times. Also Duane and I both used our Pzr IV’s which helped even the hit counts vs. the Sherman’s. Ethan pulled a sneaky move on us. Normally he likes to loan out his Shermans to the rookies, which naturally makes them easier targets for the experienced drives. This time he loaned out his Tiger which gave him at least one rookie to work against.

I didn’t suffer and major damage this time, just some small parts knocked off. A little CA and I am good to go. The next event will be a night battle, always my favorite! I should have my FO M4A1 76(W) ready to go, which should make Ethan happy.

Had a good time at this one! Even got to deal the death blow once to both Ethan and Joseph I especially liked the noises that Joseph made in protest to me taking him out.

There was one particular moment of hilarity, when Jeff was chasing my Tiger around with his SU-85. Those IFA assualt guns can be deadly when your alone going up against one and you can't manuever to get a side or rear shot at it. Instead all you can do is run and try to get away lol.

Only bad incident I had was accidentally driving up over the triangular, verticle sides of a wooden bridge which caused the tank to raise up, come to a dead stop and drop violently downwards. This made my turret go airborne and land on the right side of the upper deck. My unhinged forward hull hatches flew off and landed inside of the chassis through the turret opening. When it happened it looked like the tank had been hit by an incoming round which blew the turret straight up off the upper deck. I'm glad it didn't damage anything. It can be dangerous driving around out there if your not paying close attention to what your doing..

Duane is the only guy I've heard of that buys a new FO kit, builds, paints and then battles it all within a week (his Panzer IV).. Talk about a fast turn around! He's a maniac! lol

RSEA,
glad to see the ol' Tiger is still holding up! I hope that you were able to punch some holes in allied armor and bring about a victory!!
No new projects for me for a while, planning on making some upgrades to my Tiger 311 when I get back this fall, other than that I am glad I can at least still see what other people are doing to thier tanks and of course building new ones!
talk soon,
Will

Hey Will - Yes, ol' 931 did knock out some allied armor and scored the winning hit of one battle. It was also knocked out by the allied forces in some other battles. The color photo of it a few posts above, was actually taken after it had been chased up a hill by the SU-85 (in the same photo set) only to get knocked out shortly afterwards by a couple of Shermans on the other side.

I was going to redo 931, with the extra wheel parts you provided, but that has been put on hold for a while. I don't see any changes coming to 931's external appearance in the near future, at least not until next fall. I look forward to seeing what you end up doing, project wise, after you return from your tour of duty in the fall.

Steve,
During my downtime after talking to the wife, I do have something I am planning. Since I really like the eastern front, and I only have 1 russian tank, maybe, just maybe, another russian is in the making.
besides my german armor needs something to practice gunnery on!

Will,

When the time comes that I am able to purchase another tank, it will be Russian. The Ostfront is where the largest and most climactic tank battles occurred. The struggle between the Fatherland and the Motherland.. The clash of Heavy tank vs. Heavy tank.. Fanatical fighting on both sides.. This is the battle of the East!

Steve
