DAK TUCSON July 10 action in the desert
DAK usually takes the summer off to avoid those 110 degree temps, but this year we have something different in the works! The Tucson contingent has located an indoor RC dirt track with climate control, tables, power, and enough creature comforts to give it the old college try. July 10 we will be down with our mobile setup to battle, demonstrate, and recruit for the day and we invite you to come by.

Since it’s now too hot to play outside I have been working on more details on the tank force. Same as you guys that go indoors for the winter. At least I don't have to shovel snow!
Can’t wait for the July 10 indoor battle day!

Nice mods to the Panthers! They look very unique. SU-85 is up and running. Leo2a6 getting a fresh paint job this weekend after all the upgrades and repairs. Better than when new. (Yes, this is one of the few Leo's that actually has the stupid upgraded barrel). Along with a few other options you don't see often.

We've really been working hard on our motor pool to get it ready.
Right now, we've got seven tanks ready to roll. We're still working on two more. The Pershing needs a simple radio change (Spektrum rebind), and the SU-85 needs some minor TLC. It has yet to be shaken down since its paint job.
Last night was radio night. We fabricated and installed a left stick self center mod on an extra 2.4ghz radio for the SU-85. We don't want any run away tanks on start up due to the throttle stick not being in the center position. Now we just have to smooth out the recoil, clean up the wires inside (a real rats nest), and test everything out on it. We should be all done tonight and then tomorrow night we pack them all up. We're rolling out on Friday morning and plan to arrive early on Friday afternoon.

HondoBob,
Don’t worry about the humble little Pz3. They do very well on our battlefield. Just ask Ethan…
Anyway, bring it alone, you can at least drive it around and practice. I’m also sure we will have a loner available so you can get into the battle.
RSEA,
Sorry you can’t make it guy. This is gonna’ be FUN!!

RE: DAK TUCSON July 10 action in the desert
Well after some persuading and coercing my surgeon finally just yesterday gave me clearance to "slowly start to reincorporate light to normal activity, with minimal use of my left arm". Forntunately my fire button is on the right side of my transmitter, so I won't need my left arm all that much! (LOL)
Brining 2 tanks and 2 new buildings - gotta bum a ride with the CO so I better make one of the tanks Allied, or risk being put out on the side of the road and having to walk part of the 140 miles.
Ethan just be aware I now have titanium installed (in me not the tank) so I will be even harder to kill!

All units report Tucson trip a rousing success! We were so busy we never got a chance to count but the venue was packed at times and we picked up a new DAK member. New and refurbished vehicles hit the field including the fabled Japanese type 3 and our long suffering club SU-85. The type 3 was a slow starter but ironically, its first kill was my USMC M-4. I will never live that down!

Several of our scenarios were tested and a few battles took almost half an hour each. With all that terrain to cover our elements looked sparse, but the terrain it self was enough to keep it rolling! Local interest was high and we never lacked for rookies to try their hand. Once again a huge thank you to our Tucson Adjutant John Gibson who did a great job scouting, organizing, and promoting this event.

Great pictures and I really like the Japanese type 3. [sm=thumbs_up.gif] Someone spent a huge amount of time on the details and it shows!

RE: DAK TUCSON July 10 action in the desert
I want to say thanks to the DAK Crew for another great event! Who would have thought we could put on a battle day in the middle of July?
John, thanks for organizing things, you did a top notch job.
HondoBob, welcome to DAK! Hope to see you again when the weather cools off in the fall.

We made it home safe and sound. We both really had a great time. It was nice to see a huge turnout for the event, and we are looking forward to the next one.

Thanks John for finding an indoor place to battle and negotiating the price down, and thanks Aimee for picking up our lunch at Egee's. I had a great time and learned some things, hope to pick up more information at our next battle and be an asset to the Allied side instead of an easy target.

Troops,
DAK Tucson was a hit. We had good turnout, great crowds, a really nice venue, and in all a great day. The battles were fierce and Axis heavy as usual but the more new members we recruit, the more allies I will hopefully get to fight with. Welcome to new member John Guess, AKA HondoBob. We now have a SOUTHERN Arizona member who promises a PZ III and possibly a Sherman for the next event. We also thank my old G and now honorary club member Amy Salvato for making a visit.
As Bert said "We should have called the media!" , well maybe next time. The event shall be repeated next year if possible and definitely added to the calender. (In fact, next year the best day will probably be July 9.) The best innovations to a mobile mass media event were the "rental table" and "tip Jar". We have been discussing the concept of club "loaners" for a while now and this is a hybrid solution.
Some of the scenarios we tried made for curious forms of combat but the wide open area also played an interesting part. Wide area battles are something for the future, especially if we have more Leopards and T-55s down the road.
Our next Phoenix event will be October 8th, 15th, or 22nd. Please sound off which is the best for y'all.

John Gibson gets the gold star in scouting, planning, and organizing the venue. His temporary buildings were perfect for the kind of "mobile event" we have performed this year and hopefully will continue in the future. Not bad for a relatively "new" member!
Jeff and Aimee get the (Road Warrior Award) once again. The stopped on the way in and helped transport some of the material when our transport space became tight. You may have noticed they also brought a large collection of friends and family to fill the room and participate in the battles.
More Kudos to Aimee for crewing the lunch operations!
Doug Sharpe once again provided transport of our field accessories, made new buildings, and chatted with the crowds at length. Now if I can only get him to fight allied more often......
Charles and Leif made a banner effort this go around. Helping setup, chatting with the crowds, and helping clean up. That KT runs much better with metal tracks! Leif is turning into a good allied trooper and maybe its time we get him in a Sherman.....
Duane once again came early, stayed late, and kept up the relations with the public at length. His KV is turning into a beast on the field and his enthusiasm with new projects keeps many of us on our toes. Wait until October......
Newcomer Mitch Scherb brought the coolest vehicle of the day, his PZIII turned Japanese Type 3 took a while to get put together but on the field it immediately took out my Marine Sherman. Very appropriate. Behind the scenes he is making some amazing parts and stay tuned for some amazing projects this summer.
As for the Wounded Warrior award.... well that must go to XO Craig. He fought valiantly with one arm shot away and managed to help all day long despite the need for pain meds and a few bloody sutures. Someday Craig will get to attend a remote event with out any kind of Drama attached!
