Default Another Sherman video.

I made another video of my TaMato Sherman. Tried to find a more scale like terrain, without the backyard fence.

Check out how effective the cannon camo is.

No kidding - I'm absolutely amazed at how well the painted half of the barrel disappears in the background foilage! I've always heard that it was an effective scheme; but never saw it proven until now. Thank you.

I never noticed how effective it was unitl I shot this video in surroundings that match the battlefield. It is amazing how the front half of the barrel just fades into the background.

I am just amazed that the snow thawed enough for you to make that video

Seriously though, you do great work.

Great video of the Sherman. I liked the snow videos too. I agree about the camo on the gun. I personaly had never seen that before. Nice tank. Makes me want one.

You do great work on your videos and tanks. THanks for sharing.

Be well,

David

Very nice video YHR. Thedisappointedof half of the barrel is pretty cool behind the thin brush.
Do you think this was the intended purpose of the real thing......and to what purpose was it for?? To mislead others that it had a smaller barrel?

edit: Stupid spell checker and user error! I meantdisappearance!! Notdisappointed! LOL!!

Dan that had to be the most impressive movie I have seen in a long time! You are right the cammo on the barrel was almost spooky!

So here you are a German observer, thinking "Ah, a plain ole Sherman." So you radio back and tell some poor ole PZ IV about the Sherman with the little bitty gun. Smelling blood they run out, ready to do some hanky panky, only to fine themselves staring down the maw of that 17 pounder.

" Panzer Commander to Driver..........ummmmm, Hey Fritz, just how fast can this thing back up?"

The 17 pdr was a very capable gun and could take out Tigers and Panthers from 1800 yards. The shorter 75mm was ineffective to German armour outside of 900 yards and on a frontal attack was pretty much useless. THe Germans figured this out quick so the highest priority for them was the long barreled Shermans. So the Allies had to do something to hide the long barrel and they came up with this camo pattern. I always questioned the effectiveness, but this video demonstates it was pretty effective indeed, as the painted camo makes the front half of the barrel disappear.

Kind of cool to see a model demonstate this effectiveness.

Thanks for the kind word guys. Life has been busy for me and I haven't had a chance to contribute much lately.

Dan

The effect is probably enhanced by the downscaling necessary for YouTube - but is still impressive. I'm sure being in combat, with smoke, dirt, and SHELLS flying through the air you are not going to spend 5 minutes analyzing the Sherman tank in front of you.

Saw a show once about decoys used to distract aircraft attacking airfields. They started out with 3D replicas, then found out that 2D cut outs were just as effective. Through further study they discovered that in the jet age the attackers came in so fast they only had to paint shadows on the ground that looked like they were being cast by airplanes, and they would get targeted!

Stress can do weird things to your perception......

Hey Dan.

Need your thoughts. I just read an account of the 17 pounder. From what I read the crew had to cover thier ears, open thier mouths and shut their eyes prior to firing that bad whammy jamma.

Do you think the recoil in the mato Sherman would be about right for such a weapon being used?

Don

I'd be just guessing Don, as I have never seen a real 17 pdr being fired. I heard there was a lot of smoke attached with it as well.
