need help with half track conversion!!!!
 

ok well im working on a 21st century german 1/18 half track and everything else about this build is easy and have everything ordered to get this thing going but with the front axle i made bushings for the wheels so they spin true, but for all of you out there that done this mod how is the best way to cut away the front spindles from the axle in order to make them where u can turn them, once there off the rest is easy and i can hook up a tie rod and what not just not sure how to do it without destroying it or having to remake a new set, and let me know if u want pictures on the build ill start a thread about it.

I found the abs plastic wasn't up to the task and the spindles loosened up after a short time so I made a complete brass axle and related parts.

i supose you wouldnt make anouther eh? id buy one off you. id make one myself but only brass i got around here is 1 inch thick or little assorted tubes that i got in a bag from the hobby shop. but i got the spindles off and mounted and i see what u mean, they look like they would last only a few runs lol by the way u do very good work. let me know i can pay through paypal

Thanks for the comments guys. I got my brass from the hobby shop and found some square stock I used for the axle. It was a little labor intensive to make. I was going to make 2 more but decided after the first one that if I do, I will try to use the existing plastic leaf spring assembly and only make the axle, spindles and steering bar out of brass. If I could make them more efficiently I'd sell you one, unfortunately I don't think I'm ready to start another one yet, too many other projects on the back burner.

true , i hear ya, im working on three half tracks all the same and u end up going cross eyed after a while, lol thats when u put stuff down and walk away for a bit cause with me thats when stupid mistakes start happening, anyways ill keep an eye out at craft stores or something like that, might have some at the local hardware stores who knows, thanks for the info, how did u drive urs? did u use the unit with the dual motors from tamiya, cause im thinking about whipping up my own gearbox and canceling my order for the tamiya gears
