help identifing
just wondering if anyone knew what this behemoth was? im pretty sure it is the same tank from the indiana jones movie raiders of the lost arc. ive been lookingat various older model tanks trying to get an idea for something to build from scratch.

If I am not mistaking, that is a British Mark I tank. That was ww1 and nope, there are no kits available. I know someone was working on a scratchbuilt rc but I don;t know if it ever came to see completion.

its a sweet lookingtank i think, at 1:16th scale i can imagine it would be much larger than any of the others considering its size. if i end up building one of them i might model it based on the scene from indian jones, maybe even have indiana hanging off the front of it by his whip too, :)

I’m not up to date on WWI tanks but this is defiantly a British male variant owing to the guns as the female variant had machine guns, it could be a MkV though I’m not sure what I can tell you is seeing one run is very rare much rarer that the Tiger especially if it had the original engine un fortunately the one used in the film is another Hollywood fiction piece that had no reality.

Didn't the Mark IV have smaller side panniers for the guns? Compare this Mark V to the tank in the video...

I have seen all the different Mk's with different size panniers. What you have to watch out for is to not get the Mk's mixed up with the whippets which did have smaller panniers.

I don't know what scale it was, but I heard that it was big and made of metal. I also heard it was sold to a scrap dealer for the salvage value of the metal. Can anyone confirm or deny this "urban legend" story? Rex |

Hi Guys
Actually that's Peter Jackson's (Lord of the Rings, King Kong etc) replica tank, it's based on a bull dozer, hull is plywood, with lots of fibre glass details. He's pretty active in reconstructing early aviation as well. The tank is fitted with Lewis guns, firing blanks, and is pretty impressive doing a firing run. This is my first post, here though have been visiting for ages & stea...borrowing ideas, I generally hang out at HobbyHavoc, where I'm working on my M41's. Mal |

Now I don't know what kind it was or even if it was REAL but seems like I saw an anticle someplace, like Military Vehicles magazine or something like that, but they showed IT AS the Indiana Jones tank setting rusting in some junk yard... seems like it was in Australia or New Zealand...
I DID see the article... just don't remember in what magazine or where. And I thought it was a 'waste' then of both an old 'tank' AND a famous movie prop just sitting there... and the article showed a picture or two of it sitting in the weeds rusting away! Mike in Kentucky |
