RX 18 Difference

1 Attachment(s)
I have a question for everyone.I got at new rx 18 board recently for my Tiger tank.I swapped it out with the one that came with it to see if it would make a difference with the sound.Well it did make a difference the machine gun sounded different, the start up and idle sounds where different, the cannon sound sound was stronger and more robust sounding. But heres where it got interesting when giving the tank throttle all it would do is let out high pitch whining noise when it started moving and calm done after givingit full throttle. So I was wondering if anyone else has experineced the phenomon.

The one on the left in the picture is the new one and the one on the right is the one that came in the tank.I noticed the new one has an extra board in it,could this be the reason I wonder.

Thanks

RE: RX 18 Difference

I am very interested in this. When the RX 18 first came out it had the same sounds as the RX14, but then they did something different when they releases the KV1 and went with new sounds. All of which were better except for that in motion clicking sound. I never realized that perhaps there was more to this then just new sounds loaded up. I admit some off my RX 18 whine loader then the others, but I never put this together before until now. hmmmmmmm. Bring back the board that didn`t whine would be my request!!!!!! The sounds are certinaly not worth having to put up with that FET noise..

Although it has been a long long time since I had an RX fry up on me either, so maybe the whine isn`t so bad!!!!!!!!

Either way it looks like a big improvement in architecture over the TK-RX13 days!

Check out this topic http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10203478/tm.htm

I just got a Panzer III that came with the"older" Rx18(on the right) and the high pitched sound is driving me nuts.

Thanks for the responses.Yeah I was just wondering.Like I said you only hear it when you first give it the throttle but other than that it goes away with full throttle.I`m going to keep using it because the sounds are just better than the sounds on the other one.It sounds more like a Tiger now than what I think were the sounds of a Sherman tank.

Heheh I was about to post the same question. I ordered one as a spare but haven't tried it yet. It has the extra horizontal board above the fets and a smaller vertical board on the side. It says RX18 V6 on the main board. Think I'll have to pop it in and try it.

The RX18 I upgraded my Panzer III non S&S with also has some FET noise that is only noticeable when crawling very slowly.

lol I wouldn't expect any less from Heng Long and their awesome QA practices [:'(]

YHR I'm almost positive this board has no Track Clacking sound once under way.

The board is labeled Version 6.0

shadowwolf65 , can you please take a close-up picture of the old version of the Rx18, centered on the area I marked on this photo?

Thanks. Unfortunatelly it's a bit fuzzy, I was hoping to be able to read the inscription on the small resistor that I marked here:

Well that would be a big improvement on its own. Where did you guys purchase these boards????? I wouldn't mind gettng a couple to have a look., I complained directly about the clacking noise to HL. Told them it was a step backwards in the sound, and they should do something about it. pparently I wasn't alone in my Beef, if they in fact have tried to improve it.

Thanks a lot. I might have figured something.

If you look at the SMD resistor I marked in the fuzzy photo, you will notice that it's marked 154 in the pic of the "new: version board and 224 in the pic of the old version board. You said that the old version boards isn't "screaming" while the new version board does.

Now, my RX18, which is the "old" layout, isalso screaming. I took a careful look at it, and noticed I also have the 154 SMD resistor (which is 150 kilo ohm) instead of the one marked 224 (which is 220 kilo ohm).

I don't think this is a coincidence, particullary considering the factthat all the other components in that area of the board are identical.

I wonder what other components are different between your "old version" and mine, and if we can trace the "screaming" motos back to them.

RE: RX 18 Difference

Looks like the "new" RX18 has a 2nd stacked daughter card on the original drive FETs daughter card. I'd guess either for different (read "cheaper") FETs, or for more power. Given that the RX18 has been pretty reliable, I'd guess that cheaper is the motivation (unless Heng Long is planning on bringing out all metal tanks that need more amps...mmmmmm, metal....)

The stacked daugther card can't be the cause of the "screaming", since that behaviour is also experienced with "old style" Rx18.

Can someone with good working Rx18 (ie no "screaming") check if they have the 150Kohm or the 220Kohm resistor? I'm talking about the resistor marked in the photo.
