T34/85 with Tamiya electronics

I picked up a used Tamiya Pershing, gutted it and installed in in my WSN T34/85. Nothing new that has not been done before, but I am happy with it.

Nice job.  Extra kudos for shoehorning in those transmissions.  They'll return the favor by making this very reliable.  Nice conversion.

Nice job there. I love the ol 85. I wish HL would come out with one.
You've done a nice job on yours there. Contests

Thanks guys. Adding the Mato metal gear box was the most nerve wracking part. I would have preferred Tamiya KV-1 electronics, which is to say that it may happen in the future.

Now I have an adversary for my M4A3E8. :D

LOOKING GOOD!!!
I have one in 1/24 scale that i realy like,,,,, but i do wish HL made one in the 1/16 scale!

Nice Job on the conversion. Looks like your little buddy is intently interested in what you have done as well:D

Real nice. I used the Tamiya KV-1 electronics in mine. the diesel engine sound is awesome. The T-34/85 was a diesel not a gas motor but yours still sounds great.

RE: T34/85 with Tamiya electronics

Ya the sound is not accurate and I will purchase KV-1 electronics in the future for it.

Nice job. may i asked why you did not use the WSN recoil. I kept mine and it works fine. I also used the Tam. Pershing electronics.

My WSN recoil was troublesome. It would frequently jam. :(

Thanks for all the positive comments. [8D]

good enough reason. anyway your t34 looks great

I was able to keep the original recoil also. It is sometimes a little tricky, " it wants to start or stop between cycles" but it is better than nothing. Someday I will be looking at it again to see if a better solution is possible.

i like it because it is harder and quicker then my tamiya equivalents.

Hey Tim, could you give use some pics of the elevation and recoil set up. I didnt realize at first that you did use the Tamiya gear in the turret. this is what i want to do with mine and some good reference pics would be a big help. Thanks man for an excellent mod.

Sure, I'll have some pics for you asap.

Thanks Tim. i will be bringing mine to Danville in April so if you make the trip bring yours.

Looks good!

Did you have to modify the Mato gearboxes, to mate up with the WSN sprocket wheels? I'm curious as to how what you did compares to the Daryl Turner solution using modified Tamiya gearboxes, with an extra custom made gear and shaft assembly. You mentioned doing something with the sprocket wheels in the video, but did not go into any details..

RE: T34/85 with Tamiya electronics

For PantherG and RSEA

Here are a few more pics of the work I did on the T34. The sprockets were hollowed out and I appoxied in the collar from a HL Tiger sprocket to mate with the Mato gear shaft (I hope I got that terminology right LOL).

The gear box does not fit in nicely and I don't have the skills to modify a gear box, so I had to modify the rear hull to make it fit.

Any rate, picture is worth a thousand words.

The Recoil and Elevation motors were much easier.

Panther, yes I will be bringing my T34 and my M4A3E8 to Danville. One more T34 and we will have a platoon :)

I am looking forward to meeting everyone and learning from the masters.

RE: T34/85 with Tamiya electronics

From the looks of your elevation set up, there must be some delay of movement from when you actually command the gun to depress or elevate. Does that happen. it looks to me like it will as the elevation arm needs to move far enough before your linkage moves enough to elevate the gun. Is this so? I think you would have better results if your linkage was in a more verticle angle and the elevation arm was longer.<div> I went through this issue when i installed a servo for elevation on my Pershing. If the linkage is too far from verticle there is a delay of movement so i had to use a very long arm to get the results i wanted.</div><div> Which recoil unit are you using. The stay arm looks like it fits nicely into the mantlet. kind of looks like the Pershing arm.</div>

No delay. The arm broke so I had to fashion a new one. It needs to be replaced.

Its not 100% and probably could use some fine tuning. I need to play with it some more.

Its a Pershing recoil unit. :)

That's nice work and very innovative on the t-34. I am still looking to build one of these tanks.

Well, I'll see how things go. I will try to make it. I have to bring your radio back too. If nothing else, I will come by to bring the radio and buy the T34 from you.
