My Soviet Tanks and Allied Tanks

Just built my KV1 presented by GrandFather Frost January 1, 2011...
No weathering, just after reparing, ready to attack, with new painted body and tactical numbers...

all other photos are here http://www.d-i-m.su/forum/showthread.php?t=1410

Hal, that has to be the fastest KV build yet! Good work, looks really good.

Hal,

If my Russian tranliteration is correct, the inscription on the tank is "Zanoza" or "Zano Za". What does that mean in English? Thanks

Frank

It means 'splinter'.

THAT's it...!!!
It is a prototype of the tank that my uncle had rear-rided in 1942-1944...
Thanks Sev!

RE: My Soviet Tanks and Allied Tanks

Thanks Sevoblast. Did I get the transliterated spelling correct? Is it one word or two? Finally, what is the significance on the side of a tank?

fsciorelli 01-04-2011 11:46 AM

RE: My Soviet Tanks and Allied Tanks

Nevermind the spelling, I figured it out with Google translate.

Hal,

By "rear rided" do you mean like the Germans called Panzer grenadiers?

sevoblast 01-04-2011 12:43 PM

RE: My Soviet Tanks and Allied Tanks

Good job, Hal. Nice to see a tank with historical significance! You uncle being a 'tank rider', he was a very brave man.

fsciorelli, it is one word.

I just really dig Russian tanks. The girls are pretty hot too. LOL :)

LOL! Hal and I know about the girls. We're both married to Russian lasses.

After having checked the results of washing, understood the necessity of changing the decals on the body and turret...
So these pics show the body oldering and start (basic) weathering, using rust Tamiya pegment.

Very good start, Hal! Nicely done so far. Do keep posting the photos! Of course, if Lean'chka and I make it to Mockba this summer (finding a baby sitter for 2 weeks for 7 children is not easy!) I will have to put some 12.8 cm holes in him...as a professional courtesy.

Nice detail in those, is it just me or does the Cyrillic Alphabet enhance the Brutishness of Russian Armour ?

That KV1 really does look like a Heavy Tank, very nice !

it is not this... for 100% - cruelty is not the correct word i guess, but power, onslaught, rigidity... these meanings are more correct

Nice fender supports. Look much better then the ones did for mine. Are this available somewhere, or did you fashion them yourself?

Detail work is looking good, but the tracks are backwards.

What are you doing with the gun tube?

Enjoying your KV thread tanker commrade, very nice work.

First photo below: Leningrad Front Panther tangles with KV-1 and has a really bad day, perhaps all your words, together, are most correct.

While not my favorite Tamiya model, I enjoyed the KV build and the kit goes together without any problems.

In the last photo I was contemplating running over and crushing my little Tamiya Pz4J panzer, as WWII KV-1s would do routinely. But no, instead, the backyard 3 foot stand off – closure rule was quickly reinstated.
