Would the HL RX14 system handle the power requirements to control a 1/6th 21C Stuart? Or would it just up in a puff of smoke?

the current draw from those large motors would overload the board causing it to let the smoke out! letting the smoke out is really bad lol. if you wanted to upgrade the electronics in the stuart you would be better off getting a aftermarket radio and reciever and running dual speed controls, one to each motor

if memory serves me correctly from my days of flying, you could use a aircraft radio. im pretty sure with something that has V-tail mixing you could control the stuart the same way as the HL tanks. you would need a Y adapter for the Dual esc's to run off the reciever, and with the v tail mixing up on the right stick would power both motors and as you moved the right stick left and right the aileron input would fade one motor out and the other would continue moving. dont quote me on that but im pretty sure that it would work with that setup. if you had those components it wouldtake very long to test it out

Hi I know someone who used Tamiya DMD and MF units it worked well very good sound.

You can use a radio set up for aircraft but you cant use one with aircraft radio frequencies. just be sure it is a 75 hz. or a 2.4 system.

I found a video on youtube a while ago of a guy who installed Elmod into a stuart and it ran perfectly.

According to this thread, an RX14 board from Heng Long will not work, but what about an RX18? I have found them to be more robust, but as this is my first Stuart (or 1/6 for that matter...) I don't know. Has anyone put Heng Long RX18 electronics into a Stuart?

I also have this set up in my Pak stuart and works great sounds are incredible .So much more fun running the stuart than the stock "go" or "stop" control

If you use a Elmod you may need to hook it up to a better speed control like the Sabertooth from Dimension Engineering and you can then upgrade your motors if you like.
I am currently playing with a SLU and a Sabertooth unit so my 1/6 tanks will have all the tank functions and a good speed control that will take 12 Volt and give you one stick differentail drive.
The SLU use a external speed control that i will replace with a Sabertooth ESC, so it should work for my setup.

You can find on Youtube a builder that used a HL RX 18 system and gears on a 1/6 PZ2 model and a 7.2 v battery. The Dragon pz 2 is light if built stock but the Stuart is a heavy
tank and I dont think the RX 18 will last vary long and not at 12 volt.

I used a Sabretooth in my Tamiya KT when I changed it from a static and really liked it. I'll go that way if an RX18 is not an option. I'll miss the sound though...

Thanks for this info. I was trying to figure out what motors to get to run at 7.2 volt to change over for the RX18, and I think two motors of this type would be at least the same as the $765 for the Sabretooth. My Sabretooth is really smooth running- even better than a Tamiya unit.... not to mention A LOT cheaper!

What version of the Sabretooth did you buy for $765? I am sure you could use the Sabertooth 2X25 V2, $124.88, rated at 25A continuous, 50A peak per channel 6-30V nominal, 33.6V absolute maximum. The Stuart runs on 12 volts. Did you mean $75 for the Sabertooth 2x12 R/C?

Hers is a thought, use the sabertooth and if I am correct on this, you could add a benedini sound board to it. Not sure if this can be done, maybe someone else might know for sure.

I run a sabretooth with a Benedini setup in my Stuart and it works extremely well. Benedini board even came supplied all loaded up with Stuart Sound files from Thomas.

I did run the stuart previously with Tamiya DMD unit and this was also good but just not the correct sounds - it was a Pershiung one and is now in my Tamiya Sherman.

Even if the rx18 board worked, which I doubt, you would be way underpowered. Remember the Stuart is a 12 volt system. Go with a Sabertooth 12rc it will handle the tank with ease.

I've done my Stuart, 3 others and a pair of 1/9th 21st Century Abrams with em, and they do just fine.
Since I already had a DX6i tx, I used an $8.00 Hobby King 6 channel rx, in mine. For the others a Turnigy 9 and 8 channel rx.

Only modding you would have to do is use a servo operated DPDT switch to operate the turret. I ditched the missile launcher and installed an Airsoft cannon, used a servo to fire it, and a second one to operate gun elevation.

And a sound board is nothing to add.

The other option for the turret rotation is a simple ESC from a 1:10 scale RC car. I used a cheap one of these I picked up on evilbay and it gave me variable turret rotation speed with nice smooth control.
