Tamiya Gepard
Looking for some breif info on this tank. I just purchased one secondhand, it looks in pretty good condition but does have missing bits. Mostly trim, decoration et al.
How hard is it to get parts for it? Are they worth anything because I've not seen many of them around? |
RE: Tamiya Gepard
Currently, they are unique, as they're an old kit that is out of production, but there seem to be plenty of them out there as evidenced by their frequent appearances at on line auction sites.
There's considerable speculation that the kit will soon be re-released as it's sibling Leo 1a4 just was. As such, parts should be available soon, simply because the two kits share so many of the same parts. |
RE: Tamiya Gepard
Also, if you need parts check AFV model. They have alot of parts for the Leopard and Gepard

RE: Tamiya Gepard
Thanks for the heads up on AFV model they have quite a lot of handy spares. I'll keep an eye out for parts, looks like on the pics it is missing some lights as well. No idea about electronics or transmission but I guess I will know on Friday!

RE: Tamiya Gepard
Well, I know they came with a clutch drive system, like my Leo A4 had. I changed it to the AFv gearboxes. Just a FYI, it bolts right in and works perfectly. Also, for the lights, AFV has all the working lights for the tank as well. Also used on my build. Quality stuff, but expensive. Good luck and keep us posted.

RE: Tamiya Gepard
So I missed the post yesterday but just picked up the Gepard a few moments ago.
I am, over all very happy with the purchase. The Turret is intact, all electronics and motors appear to be in location, not to sure about the turret traverse motor unless in Tamiya kits it is inside the turret. Guns are 100% with LED's present. Elevation is a little loose and sloppy so maybe some work needed there. Rear RADAR dish present and intact, all hooked up to the motor. Front RADAR dome present, one round side piece missing but there was a complete assembly spare with the kit. Chassis is a sad panda. The rear bulkhead is damaged on both sides, the two ends mate up with the main chassis are broken, repairable by the looks of it. Two return rollers missing and one broken but have one complete in spares bag. One skirt is missing. Various parts unattached but have plenty in the spares bag. Really need the instructions to work out what is or isn't there. Transmission and electronics all that is present is the gearbox and motors, and either a transmission plug or power cable in the rear bulkhead. Not looked at it very well but it reminds me of either a really old data cable or a really old power cable! I've looked around and it would seem I have a different gearbox in it as it doesn't look very complicated, more like the standard Heng Long boxes with plastic and brass gears and two motors. I am presuming the double clutch version is the one with one motor for both tracks. The tank is not painted but the decals have been placed. All in all for a tank that is older than I am it is in pretty good condition. Although fixing it up might be out of my price range! |
