VSX 1/72 RC Tanks
 

I decided to quit hijacking Shenlonco's awesome 1/24 battlefield thread and start my own, and offer a bit of review for anyone interested or debating grabbing a few of these. I received my VSX Tiger v. Sherman combo two days ago, and so far am pleased with the little guys! Speed is much slower than the older VS*R models that I usually ran off the side of tables, and seems close to scale considering the small size of these tanks. I just ran one to check run time, and stopped after 20 minutes when it started slowing down and having a bit of trouble turning. I believe that VS says run time is 15 minutes. From that point it took exactly 10 minutes to recharge the battery. The controller has a small compartment that contains a charging cord that plugs into a port on the bottom of the tank.

I measured the shooting distance yesterday and was making hits at 19 feet. This is also about the max driving range from the transmitter. Tank movement is controlled using the left stick, and the right stick is for turret rotation. The turrets almost rotate 180 degrees, from about 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock. Main gun fire is from a button on the right side front of the transmitter, and the left side has a button for machine gun. A 5-10 second burst with the machine gun registers a hit on the tank, and the tank is disabled after 5 hits from either gun. The tank itself has no speaker [duh, these things are small!], and the main gun and machine gun sounds come from the transmitter.

Tracks are rubber bank type, and time will tell how they hold up. The Sherman tracks are pretty thin compared to the Tigers, and at first the Sherman was having difficulty running in reverse. I took the tracks off and ran it a bit, and it works better now. I don't know if this served as a break in for the gears or what, but it's working now.
I wanted to build an indoor battlefield like Shen's, but don't have the room for 1/24 so decided to get these and do the same thing on a smaller scale. I'll post pictures as it develops!

These are awesome looking and I like the small scale, definetly a table top (or larger) battle field would be in order.
19ft at 1/72 scale is roughly a little over 1/4 mile for 1/1 scale, kind of short but probably practical due the reported short TX range.

Is the turret rotation proportional or do they just jerk to the left or right? From the videos it looks like it's proportional. I have the earlier modern tanks from years back and the turrets just jerk full left or right, no control to accurately aim, not much fun...

These are nothing like the modern VS*R tank models. They run smoother and slower, look better and not so toy-like... and there is a ton of 1/72 stuff out there if you want to do a small battlefield. This is gonna be fun!

Oh, I forgot to add that you can use the reactive pop up targets that VS makes with the 1/72 VSX too! Battlefield will have one on each end. Goal to be trying to defend your bunker/target while assaulting your opponents tank and hitting their bunker/target. With a 19 foot shooting range, the IR sensor on the target will have to be concealed somewhat to prevent losing with the first shot from across the battlefield

Oh ya here we go..... I was looking for these when I first started looking at Tanks and then I saw the 16 th scale and abandoned the idea. It got rekindled when the pair of 1/35 scale tanks came up from WSN and now this, i guess full circle, these would fit just right on my slot car track that is HO scale so yes these would be a little larger but pretty darn close. So now I have to head off to the hobby shop to see if they carry these. You see I like to try to buy locally first.

Same here FourSlot... the older VS*R got me into RC tanks, but they didn't last. I think my first post here was about the battery life of the small VS. Cute little IR tanks that can drive around a desktop and shoot each other... can bring them to work, etc Two HL Tigers, HL Panther. Matorro King Tiger, and HL PZIII later here I am again planning a mini-tank desktop battlefield! Full circle...

OMG! What happened to shipping costs with Toyeast.com?? I just went to order two IR targets and the shipping costs almost as much as the targets did... I guess I'll wait to see if someone in the states carries them [:o]

well towers order came in today and they sent me the sherman and tiger ... not the T34 o well like the sherman better anyhow.. lucky my other order for a sherman was canceled due to not in stock error.

anyhow first impressions they look great
Driving not to good they just are not smooth maybe after a while the tracks will wear in... I feel VS should of used plastic snap type tracks then they would drive real nice...
Maybe a VS hop up?? VS YOU LISTENING?
On further notice they kind of waddle not run smooth and especially at slower speeds due to the fact that VS don't know how to make a perfectly round and true front drive sproket!! It's because the gear drives drive sproket wheels are so out of round why they don't work smoothly... if they where true these would run great!

another problem with my tiger I i noticed my tiger could hit the sherman from like almost 20ft and my sherman hit the tiger from only like 9 feet ... I found my tigers IR sensor was sunken down inside the turret to much so i used a pin and pryed it up higher now both tanks work the same... this was a problem on one of my FOV 1/24 tanks also the sensor was hot glued way down and i would not get hits on it also so i took it apart and reglued it in the normal hight position and it worked on the FOV tank also so this is how i knew to check for this on the new VS tanks...

Still have to test on the MAD battle field.!!

I'm waiting for someone in the US to carry the FOV 1/24 antitank guns, I see great prices overseas but when you add shipping it's not worth it.

Anyway you can make your own infrared targets if know a little about electronics. I submitted a simple circuit many years ago on one of the other forums, or you can get one of my premade ones. These will only handle flashing LEDs but with some thought and skill you can add some sort of mechanical action like flippng barrels & crates.

These little tanks look great but I'm hesitant to add another scale to my collection. I may need to sell some things off, between the 1/16 and 1/24 tanks I'm well over 20! I'm not going to mention the kits & aftermarkets that are still on the shelves.

Ahh, scale means nothing. I got mine just to break the monotony of building the larger scales and not worried about a dedicated large area to run them on. They do look goofy when taking a hit from another tank, but it's just a toy to take a breather with.

And, they take up little space on the shelves ... even with the controller too. :D

my tiger has slowed down in forward cause the right track isnt opperating at full speed any one have to do some repairs?

so I took it apart,removed the gear box[still hooked up]and it operates fine.<div>when put back together same problem.so i guess im gonna try and find </div><div>another motor for the right side.</div>
