Help Please....
1 Attachment(s)
Doh....I really am still a rookie....can't believe I did this....
Took apart, masked and painted a mushroom. Looks good Hit the parts, all taped to a painting stick, with a heat gun to speed the paint drying a bit. Just set on warm, but too warm for the fins... Anyone have spare fins from a busted mushroom? Will cover costs. Thank you. |
RE: Help Please....
We learn from our mistakes. If you can locate some plastic card near the same thickness you can trace one of the good rings and make new ones. Be sure to paint them black before assembly. This in place of getting replacement fins.

RE: Help Please....
Hmmm. I don't know of any supplier for apple parts. However, Tankhobby had the idea, make new ones out of card stock. You may want to contact Tamiya USA first, though, and ask them. Worst they can say is no.
I never use a heat gun on plastic. Direct sun light, or sitting on a radiator (we still have them here) cooks them just right and the paint cures and dries rather rapidly. I paint the fins with flat to match the tank it's going in. That prevents someone's shot from bouncing off a watch or some such and nailing my KT or JT to a cross with a ricochet. |
RE: Help Please....
It looks like a Heng Long apple to me.

RE: Help Please....
If you were trying to get on the fast track for my tank bloopers post Dan, you sucseeded.[:o]
If I'm not mistaken, this the only apple you have? It seems you need five discs. Let me see what I can scrounge up. I'm also searching for some parts for Yellowshaker too. Bob |
RE: Help Please....
Bob,
Thank you, much appreciated. I did contact Tamiya to see if I could buy the discs separately. I'll wait to hear from them. They were great when I contacted them about the sheared drive shaft. Dan |
RE: Help Please....
Heat them again and flatten them out between two metal, glass or plexiglas plates. You may want to try an ironing iron and heat them between two metal plates. I believe you can save them. Jerry |

ORIGINAL: danlrc Bob, Thank you, much appreciated. I did contact Tamiya to see if I could buy the discs separately. I'll wait to hear from them. They were great when I contacted them about the sheared drive shaft. Dan I have a partially stripped apple and will give you the discs. Send me a PM with your address. These disc are more like a soft vinyl than hard plastic which made then very vulnerable to your heat gun and just as difficult to fix. Just buy me a beer when next we meet at Danville, pal.:) |
RE: Help Please....
And in addition to that prize..... You have won a prominent position on the bloopers post! LMAO! I did something quite similar a while back, but I didn't tell anybody about it.
