Grafenwoehr?
I have seen some information relating to German Tank clors/markings attributing them toGrafenwoehr and I was wondering if anyone knew what this meant.
Example; http://www.peddinghaus-decals.de/com...5ce6d30245.png I know this was (and still is) a trining area, I assume that might mean tanks identified in this manner were either used in training, or in 1945, used in attempts to defend the area?
|
RE: Grafenwoehr?
This was a tank commanded by Staff Sgt Werter, assigned to HQ Hvy Tank Destroyer Bn 654, stationed at Graf. Have some not too nice memories of "vacationland Graf". Unpleasant times chopping & heating frozen mud out the suspension to get the tanks rolling. Rolled in late afternoon, parked in a foot of mud, overnight freeze locked the tracks up solid. Had to get any movable tank to back up to the sides of others to let the exhaust thaw out the road wheels. [:'(] There are a couple of barely recognizable Tigers down range that have been targets since 1945. :(
Further; this is a HQ command vehicle and Stabsfeldwebel is a Staff NCO, not as I had directly translated as staff Sgt. |
