I am looking at geting one of these models. Are they any good or are they just toys
Can you get replacement parts especially the rubber tracks? Thanks Martin
|

They are toys first, but they can be upgraded. Not bad, and they are the are only game in town.

I think that's Merle's sdkfz 251 conversion running on an older el-mod setup...
Here's a short vid of Phil's M16 tank destroyer conversion being chased across the Danville battlefield by my M3A1 conversion http://www.youtube.com/user/ExPatTan.../2/PR7EDvX8nqs http://i1013.photobucket.com/albums/...s/HPIM3552.jpg I like them so much I bought 2: http://i1013.photobucket.com/albums/...s/P8281873.jpg I just put the El-Mod M16 electronics and battle circuit in yesterday - the wiring looks a bit unsightly, but it works and I can traverse the turret around most of the way before I run out of ribbon cable. The El-Mod board is a straight drop in, I used a small Spektrum receiver that fits inside one of the fuel tanks, and the CSI board is crammed into the gunners seat in the turret. took about an hour in all to fit. http://i1013.photobucket.com/albums/...s/P8281877.jpg http://i1013.photobucket.com/albums/...s/P8281875.jpg The M3A1 has a lower floor, so I couldn't fit the El-Mod in it. At the moment is runs on a Scorpion Mini robot ESC that fits under the troop bench - very small but it does whine badly (that the whine you can hear in the video). I have a set of Clark model electronics you can just see stuffed behind the seat, I'm hoping to get that working when I have time as this will add sounds and a battle circuit. http://i1013.photobucket.com/albums/...s/P8281878.jpg http://i1013.photobucket.com/albums/...s/HPIM3493.jpg http://i1013.photobucket.com/albums/...s/HPIM3482.jpg |

So far so good, I might have to tweak the acceleration a little as its a bit to slow to move off at the moment - some people might appreciate that but its too sluggish to battle with IMO, fortunately it has a socket for the PC Configurator dongle so its easy to adjust.
I'll work on getting a vid for you ;) |

RE: WSN's M16 Halftrack
Oh wow, you're fast with the video! Thanks!
Sounds better than I thought it would, especially the start up. Now, are these programmable as well? I mean if I were to change the weapon to say like a 75MM (or a 105 :D) can that sound be changed? Heck, even muting the quads for a standard M3 would be interesting too. I've been putting off getting one of these so it's time now. You have a sweet little playground there for your videos & testing and I thank you! :D - Jeff |
RE: WSN's M16 Halftrack
It has the usual el-mod SD card for the sounds, so no reason why you couldn't change them out - I think Phil did that with his TD conversion. The sounds are being played back thru the (sub) standard speaker, if you could find something better that would fit then that would do a lot to help.

Okay, thanks. Looks like a project itself to do. :D

ORIGINAL: AFV432 cant wait to see that one of our club members here has an oddball sherman complete with speaker and mp3 player blasting out the tunes In the beginning I thought of installing a sound module that would hold about 10 seconds. But that was long ago because this has been the build to test all builds with. Too much to do and reference to. :D - Jeff |

If I can get caught up today I will get bench video of what it can do, and you can hear the changed cannon sound. The other cool thing about this board is it comes with the ability to add 3 other custom sounds. When you hear the air attack that is already loaded for you in 2 variations, that you can trigger on you own, nothing special it comes set that way. You can easily change one or both or all 3 of those to a song or troops yelling out. Phil |
