Does the HL IR system even work?
Greetings Commanders, My brother and I will probably be the only ones battling, and the HLIRsystem is definately the easiest to get and most cost effective. My question is, Does it even work? Or is it so inferior in range to the D?? and Tamiya battle systems that we won't have any fun? Range is the main thing. If it can't go 20 feet, no use in playing. Ihave laser tag guns that shoot across a football field so I know it's possible. Thank you!</p> |
RE: Does the HL IR system even work?
Yes, they do work. While they are small, they are effective. The WSN IR system is much the worse for realism. The HL tanks shake and wiggle when hit/killed but there are no lights. The WSN sounds like a battleship alarm and is very odd. The DBU is very realistic and effective. The Tamiya TBU is the best so far. The Elmod and SLU are getting closer to the TBU with each version but not as close as the DBU is now. IMHO
The range of the HL IR is good but it's no TBU or DBU. The DBU has about 20% less range than the TBU. They are a cheap substitute, but you are very limited with how many tanks can play unless you buy some 5 the 10 HL radio crystals. Bob, thecommander |
RE: Does the HL IR system even work?
Thank you very much for the info. My brother would get the HL Panther G IR version and I the Russian IR tank. I don't want to upgrade my pershing as it only has an R13 board and seems a bit out-of-date...I wouldn't have any of the connectors. Besides, I'd like to keep one airsoft tank I think.
How far would you say the range is? We could fight inside but it would be a lot more fun outside. My neighbors don't like the BB pellets, and IR doesn't lie! |
RE: Does the HL IR system even work?
I have gotten kills with a stock HL battle system at ranges up to 50 ft outdoors. They will trigger my TankHobby IR targets at ranges slightly more than that. 30 ft is usually the norm.<div>

RE: Does the HL IR system even work?
Yeah, It's going to be a tough decision. I like airsoft because of the balistics, but my neigbors hate the BBs so we basically would have to go somewhere special to play :(
I guess 30 ft is enough to have fun with. But really, these tanks a just plain boring if you can't battle with them! We just played a round of titan tanks tonight and it was fun :) |
RE: Does the HL IR system even work?
I like to use the airsoft for target practice, think gunnery range. Keeps the mess contained for easy clean up and range rules keep peoples eyes safe. The ballistics make it a challenge. Make it a course where you drive and shoot targets for points. Time it for added stress.<div>
</div><div>IR is for tank to tank battle. No worry about safety so you can focus on your foe. </div><div> </div><div>Having both is best.</div> |

RE: Does the HL IR system even work?
I have 4 HL tanks with IR and they work fine for what they are and outdoors on a bright sunny day 30-40 ft was about the average range for all 4.
Capture the flag in a timed situation is always a good one or just plain duking it out with 2 team's of 2. The point is to have fun, some day I will save enough to upgrade all the tanks to a better system but for now I am having a blast (pun intended). Tom |
RE: Does the HL IR system even work?
The trick is to move the turret and gun as litle as posible.
What you want to do is practice using the tank as an no turrt vehicle such as a Stug .Makes for exciting game play.. Any questions? most wpold be happy too help. |
RE: Does the HL IR system even work?
We know very well how to use tanks as if they had no turrent. We have "Titan Tanks" and do it all the time!
