The stand off
 

Last week, when I found the photo of the piles of Goliaths in a junk yard, I got to looking around for more info on those little beauties. There were two versions, a model 302 with an electric motor.....and a model 303 with a gasoline engine. Each one of these had various modifications within their production versions as well.

I decided to do the 302 because the details of it were easier to build than the 303. This was a fun project. All I had to go by was a lot of photos from a Google search, and the dimensions.....4 ft long, 2 feet wide and about knee high. The details on my model were eyeball judgements and were sized to "look right". Once I got the Goliath done, I realized I needed a trailer for it and that became part 2 of this project. Anyhow, this was my fastest scratchbuilt project. It only took a week.

NO!.......it is not R/C (neither is the Russian tank dog).........I just couldn't resist putting these two tank destroyers together.

Now all it needs is a caption.

Thanks for the kind words........I have developed some skills over the years, but mostly what I build is the result of having darn near every hobby tool in the world, being able to buy the raw materials and parts from various sources, and being able to surf the internet for reference material. Since I am retired and live alone, I can do what I want to do, when I want to do it, and for as long as I want to do it. If it wasn't for this hobby, I have no idea what I would do to keep busy (and have fun). I just wish I was 32 instead of 72. What future technology will do for this hobby is going to be amazing. I just hope that somebody produces WWII BRITISH TANKS someday!

Speaking of skills, is there anything in the works when it comes to your "History As It Could Have Happened" writing skills? I really enjoyed reading your "documentaries".

They were absolute truth, Rex. Your skills are simply awesome to say the least. Never ceased to amaze me how you can whip up something in a matter of days that would take me a year or more.

As for my writing skills, we may well revisit The Last 1 shortly, amongst a couple other odds and ends. We've been buried since July with workers in the digs, dog shows, business, et al. Now, things will calm some for January through early April, I'll have time to work on tanks and write some.

The track set was in my mystery junk box that I dig into when ever I need a miracle. They are off of a German tank kit of some sort....I have no idea where they came from or what scale they are.....1/35 maybe?. In the past I have acquired "gift boxes" of stuff that friends have given/sold to me. I was amazed that they fit the dimensions that were needed for the Goliath. I was going to steal the tracks out of a 1/35 scale Universal Carrier kit, and finding those tracks saved that kit. They were a tad too narrow to suit me, but they were close enough, so I built the model. The rest of the Goliath is the most accurate, precise, incredibly correct 1/16th scale model that the National Bureau of Standards could verify. Golly, I guess you young kids today know that outfit to be known as the National Institute of Standards and Technology. I'm going to overlook that (more or less) comment.

That could happen........if ya want a 7 yr. old kid in a 72 yr. old body. But be warned, I am a stubborn little brat who is set in his ways and hard to get along with. Also, how can I be sure you could handle my liquor bill?

LOL. I'll adopt you instead. I'm 65, and trust me, here I can afford your liquor bill. Smokes are less than a buck a pack for the good stuff, 30 cents for 'local' gaspers, some of which are surprisingly good. Wine? El Primo Massandrah and Inkerman, to die for, is 4 to 5 bucks a bottle. Vodka? Paint remover in a vodka bottle is a buck, good smooth vodichka is 5 bucks, I'm talking the next morning 'Did I really do that and why don't my head hurt. And whose police cap is that hanging on my backyard fence' type of vodka. However!! Bring your heart meds. Beach from 01 May until 01 October, well, suffice it to say you'll need the meds, regardless of your age. Local lasses at beach, while maintaining some decorum, leave little to the imagination. Militsiya (Police) will have a word with the lasses if they go too far. LOL. And we can work on tanks all the live long day. When you get bored with tanks, you can have a break with our 10 'children', some rather charming collies and one young cat who thinks he's a collie. Need more? I can tell you a tad more about the AO. Grin. As for the 'hard to get along with', well, you ain't met VCO yet. Between her and Sophia, I don't think you'll be too much trouble. Think 5 kilo silver antique serving spoon. Sigh. I speak to said spoon rather muchly.

Shelf space is getting to be a problem. My house is not a home, it's a hobby shop. Right now it looks like a hobby shop after an 8.0 earthquake. I need a bigger house........or a smaller hobby.
