I just can't imagine a tank this tall to overlook the battlefield hitting tanks several houses away from it's location.

And, it would be hard to hit too. :D

My guess would be its an early version mine tank. And the height is to protect it from explosions

Well, no secret or guessing needed. It's a Mine Exploder T10 - Development Model; remote-controlled mine-clearer. I just wanted to show how it might be fun on an IR battlefield is all. ;)
