Another Pershing Almost Finished

Almost done...HL Pershing, didnt like the "came with" crates so I made my own. Scrap balsa. Havent permanetly mounted them yet. I made mounts for my jerry cans from paper clip ends...drilled 2 holes per side and glued them in. I may do the same with the crates.

RE: Another Pershing Almost Finished
Looks good Rat. Should put an antenna in that hole/circle behind the loader's hatch. That's for the infantry radio with a smaller rubber ducky style antenna base and short (4 ft) antenna. . On the stowage, make sure to make some security for those ammo boxes.
Since you are keeping the skirts, cables, "steel" rods, etc....otherwise, they'd be laying in the dirt a hundred yards down the road. What's supposed to be that nicely made crate? Looks very nice, but the only thing that comes in crates like that are 2 rounds of 90mm ammo in black paper tubes, and they would never be carried open on the deck. Better would be grenade boxes or C or K rats boxes. The TC's wet weather suit is also OD....it's a rubber coated canvas which caused you to get wetter from sweat than from rain. Best to paint it with a greener shade of OD to stand out from the fatigues. Tank and weathering is lookin' good. |
RE: Another Pershing Almost Finished
Nice job rat now i like the way you did the weathering looks good the decals you ask me where did i get them i got them form http://www.axels-modellbau-shop.de. i realy like your crates. looking good .

RE: Another Pershing Almost Finished
Thanks guys, Im leaning on each one. I used a different weathering on this one and no flash. I used a powder (train guys use this) and then hit it with a coat of Dullcoat. It is a lot easier to work with to me. I noticed something missing off that rf fender when I opened it up and checked for damage...was never there. Yes sir Bill, I had planned on doing all the securing on those ammo boxes whenever my other duffle bags and stuff come in. I painted the TC from another pic I found cause I had no idea what colors to paint him. Im going to PM you next time before I start painting...lol I dont know if it showed in the pics but I made a cigar for the TC. Im trying to quit smoking so now ALL my TC have cigs or cigars in there mouth...arg!! I need to find some better detailed TC for 1/16, the HL are not very detailed and it makes it hard to paint them.

RE: Another Pershing Almost Finished
Hi !!
I also have an almost ( ???? ) finished Pershing. ( Do they ever get finished ? I think not. ) I am still working on some plastic surgery on my tank crew and also working up the nerve to install my metal tracks and sprokets. I have a question that someone may be able to answer. I notice on the top of the turret there is a circular impression with a rectangular slot cut in it. Anyone know what it is ? Leftover from manufacturing or actually some attachment point for missing equipment. Thanks for any help. Wayne |
RE: Another Pershing Almost Finished
Seeing good looking Pershings like this makes me want another one. I built a M26A1 with the side fenders off but a WWII version with them on is screaming at me! Or at least an M45 like James is working on.
I may just pass on Danville this Spring to get one for my vacation. :D Thanks rat now for sharing yours! http://images.rcuniverse.com/forum/micons/m6.gif It looks great! ~ Jeff |

Don't know why they put that slot in there??? That's for an antenna base for the BC-611 infantry radio. It uses a smaller "rubber ducky" mast base with a four foot antenna. Realistically, the main antenna in the large MB-48 mast base behind the TC had a very thick antenna staff....3/4" at the base with 3 three foot sections narrowing to 1/2 " at the tip. The Inf radio staffs were about 1/2 inch. The photo of the Weasel shows the type antenna and base. Another overexposed shot of loading ammo...the ant base is clear.

Thanks for the info.
As you can see I have located 3 arials and I am not trying to be historicaly correct so I may make a stub to go on the slot. Yeah the 50 cal guy is vulnerable but he and 2 other armed rear facingdefenders who sit on the rear crates come off for battle. Thanks again Wayne |

Thanks guys, no I dont think we ever actually finish any of these things :) I always come back to a previous one for another idea that comes across. I ve still got to finish up the wheels, sprockets, and tracks.Ive got some other accessories coming too like duffle bags , barbed wire, etc from Build-a-Rama. Where can I get some better detailed tank crews in 1/16. These HL are a pain to paint as there detail is lacking. ~ Jeff |

Hey Bill, does this look something like what your talking about? I made it out of a flathead machine screw and then soldered a straighted out paper clip to it. How tall should it be scale? Oh yeah...I also attached a couple of pics of my Tiger 1 TC. Hes probably not to scale but I had fun putting the cigarette and wiring up his headset! Last pic is of the Bulldog...I redid the rust on the mufflers, I think it looks alot better than before. Thanks all, Rat |

RE: Another Pershing Almost Finished
Put some heat shrink on the antennas. It will thicken them a little and provide the appearance of the rubber sheath that antennas have on them.

RE: Another Pershing Almost Finished
Exactly what I was going to do and I didnt have that size.
