Tiger 1 kit

I would like to ask what would be a good scale Tiger 1, and who makes the best kit ?

RE: Tiger 1 kit

Are you looking for an RC Tiger I? if you are the scale depends on how much space and money you have to spend. We here primarily use 1:16th scale. Anything bigger than that starts to double and tripple the price.  The Tamiya is the only RC tank that you can get in a kit.<div> Mato also has a new all metal hull and turret system out. That tank you pretty much need to build your self also. There are a few guys on here that have those and some of them are mid build as we speak.  The Tamiya is still the main kit brand.</div>

I believe rc armory or armortec would be the places to check for that scale...perhaps Mark-1 tank also, but not sure. That is an impressive rc tank size to pay with...wish I could afford one myself. LOL

I don't think there are any ready to run 1/6 Tigers, but yeah, Armortek .. just be prepared to spend some large amounts of cash.. large amounts..

So which is it? 1/16 or 1/6?

How much do you want to spend?

In 1/16 you can get a Heng Long RTR for about $100.00 that comes with "a" radio. In 1/15 a Bandai for about $300.00 and that would be static for you to RC. And in 1/16 a Full Option Tiger I from Tamiya for about $600.00, that will need the radio gear as an extra cost.

I think he like the idea of 1/6 but not the price in fact 1/16 maybe out of his league, yet another example of a person who can’t be bothered to use Google

I've got three 1/16 Tiger I's, two are plastic Heng Long's with metal upgrades - these were about $130 each. They are complete with a radio, sound, smoke etc.

The third one is the all metal Mato, which was $499. It is a completely static model except for motors and gearboxes. The easiest way to convert it to RC is to sacrifice a Heng Long for parts. I didn't use the Heng Long electronics myself, but you do need at least a few Heng Long parts.

Wd40 welcome abord, matos 1/16 Tiger is a good starter tank and you will have lots of room for upgrade, if you so choose. ( see Mato Mart or RC tank wars for prices and parts)
The tamiya is a nice kit that you build and then set up for R/C, if you are not going to use it for IR battleing you will not need to buy some parts.

Take a read of some of the tank threds and see what you like and the pros and cons of each and what you may think best suited for you.
The big 1/6 tanks are real cool but big bucks to get them built and R/C running, some day i will have a1/6 Tiger to call my own....;)
If you like the 1/6 idea try a Stuart tank by 21 century toys and a start.

Good luck and have fun.....nice plane too....:D

Yes. That is my composite-arf p47 tank killer with the Moki 5 cyclinder engine should be ready to fly this summer. I also fly and build Rc jets so, I think I should have no problems with the tanks. That is what this forum is for to get help when you need it The 1\6 scale was a type o , but look what I have learned from that, and if I want a 1\6 scale Tiger I can get one.
Here is one of past jet's T-33 turbine powered

Thanks

Beautiful wd40. Don't take some of the responses to heart. Those responses are an unfortunate trend.

That Moki looks great. As far as tanks go I would guess you would be interested in a Tamiya Tiger. It is a higher price option but high quality and it comes in kit form. There are a ton of aftermarket parts if you would like to upgrade it. If you have the cash it would probably be the way to go.

FYI - the size difference between 1:6 & 1:16 - Had the 1:6 tiger visit our 1:16 battlefield.

From what I understand, the dollars spent are similarly large :)

The Tamiya Tiger is a nice kit to build. As with airplanes, putting it together helps fixing it when broken (former RC glider pilot).

Welcome to the tank section wd40! I myself have a few Tamiya Tanks and they are really nice. I'd recommend the Tamiya Leopard 2a6 if you like modern tanks, that will be my next purchase in the future.

RE: Tiger 1 kit

wd40,
I built small RC ships (24" long), and eventually went BIG (3 to 7ft) and will never look back. I started RC tanks with a 1/16th Tamiya King Tiger and it's a great kit (so is the Tamiya Tiger 1), but it seems so small compared to the ship models I'm now used to.
Unless you are going to interact with other 1/16 RC tankers in battling, and/or if you want to add a lot of animation details (firing guns, exhaust, BIG sound, etc etc) that can barely be jammed into a 1/16th model, I would go with the larger scale. From the looks of your other models, I think you would find 1/16th a tad too small. And a large scale tank should be in a price range similar to your investment in your larger scale planes.
Go for it.....
And maybe even check out Hakatashi and 1/4 scale Tiger!!!!

NO idea what make the Tiger is but it ‘suffering from collapsed suspension, still looks rather nice though.

WD40 no harm intended but we do get a lot of people who just can’t be bothered to Google simple things, whilst you have the till you may be interested in ¼ scale these come ready to run from Mark 1 Tanks in England and come as Tiger I, Tiger II T34/85 and coming soon Panther G next down 1/6 scale ready to run is again Mark 1 Tanks covering a rather large range of tanks, Armourtek again from England release kits and are about to release the late model Tiger I again

Rivetcounter, you said the Mark-1 tanks come RTR? Must be a hell of a cost in shipping, no?

I like that 1/4 scale Tiger 1, I will have to think about that one it would work great with my p47 at the fly inns we have I could fly over and drop two 500 pounder bombs on the Tiger at the show.

NO idea what the postage would be to the US but shipping a 1/6 tank to Germany was not that expensive 60€.

WD40 if you wanted to be realistic you would have to drop the bombs about 100 or more meters away from the Tiger, after battle analysis showed that only 6 Tigers were confirmed lost to Typhoons

Go on EBay and you will find what your after. You can purchase a RTR Tiger in 1/16 scale for around $150 USD. They also have more expensive ones in this scale if you are so inclined.
