M41 to M18 Hellcat ??
 

Hi Guys, i am just thinking ;)

yesterday i looked for an m18 hellcat and i looked at an m41, what do you think would this work?

i mean the lower hull as an self construction, using the wheels from the m41 but sprocket and track vrom the new mato sherman

i know, much scratchbuilding but i think it would work or what would you say?

or better do you know anyone who has already done an m18 hellcat?

I believe that a couple of guys have done this build before. I am not sure if it is on this forum, however. I think ther eis one on the UK forums. Perhaps contact Ex Pat tanker and ask him. He may know who did it...and where to find it.

That's how I did my M18, but just as an easy static fun build. It worked out well enough to please me. I wanted to do an interior with a crew.

I was, and still am, terrible at doing a photographic build thread. I just build for fun and never give a thought to the fact that it may help someone avoid mistakes or help out in some way. I only have two photos to show. The only thing I can remember doing to the lower part of the 21st Century Bulldog was correcting the upper return rollers. See the photo......

The entire top and turret were totally scratchbuilt with time and patience. If you want, I could take some better closeup photos and post them......if that could help you in any way

Don't want to hijack the thread but does any one think you could conjure up a Chaffee from the M41. I know it is way too wide and long but hey I got Knives . saws. and lots of other good stuff to hack things apart.

And I don't want to hijack this thread either, but I wonder what can be done using the Glencoe M41 into one of these tanks? Other than make it a battlefield statistic, it's gotta be worth a try at a M18. http://images.rcuniverse.com/forum/micons/m5.gif

I know half of the kits parts need to be tossed and introduce some RC gear, but I think I'll look into doing that ... or using the 21st Century Bulldog. It's even smaller? :D

The Glencoe M41 Walker Bulldog is not a very good scale model. Trust me.....I still have 2 of those disasters in my stash (unbuilt) Everything about it barely qualifies it as a "crude toy model". The box cover says 1/15 scale (I don't know on what planet) but it is closer to 1/20 scale here on Earth. I spent a horrendous amout of time trying to bring one up to a "decent looking" model. With about 3% more effort I could have totally scratchbuilt one. I did use another Glencoe M41 lower half to scratchbuild an M24 Chaffee, which came real close to 1/18 scale. Sadly, I don't think the Glencoe is worth the time and money for what it is........the best thing you will find in the box is the decal sheet. I think I paid $20 for each of those kits when they first came out. The instruction sheets are dated 1994.

I think the lower part of the 1/18th scale 21st Century M41 is an excellent choice for a 1/16th scale Chaffee. The dimensions come out very close for a Chaffee build, if you can makesome allowances.

Here are photos of 3 Walkers in 3 different scales. The one in back is 1/16 HL. The middle one is 1/18 21st Century. The one up front is the 1/20 Glencoe with a heck of a lot of "improving".

Err, umm ... I know all about that old news as I do have one. :D I was just wondering if anyone had used theirs for anything else but a battlefield decoration. That, and opened up a box to charge the battery. Apparently not, must be the wrong forum. :) At least I only have one, and it was given to me 10 years ago. [:o]
