RE: Tamiya increase

let's be honest, i buy for more then 30 years tamiya stuff, with the internet the prices of tamiya kits didn(t go up at all , my first KTPorsche costed 600 euro with dmd 1 controler, now a FOKTcosted 500 euro here ... it could n't last longer with the worldwide crisis going on ... its not that i not find it a pitty ... it was affortable last years ... i bought my FO sherman 13 years ago for 650 euro now you can have him for less then 400 euro by axel in germany

i don't approve raises but i understand them too compared with foodprices modelling hasn't raised so much and thats good

if i compared a bread 20 years ago costen 0.50 euro then now you have to pay 2 euro at least so let's thank god our hobby is still affortable , if the tamiya kits raises four time the price like the bread that would be a disaster for us

Oil prices affect styrene prices.

A few years back when oil exploded, a lot of model companies raised prices considerably. I haven't bought Tamiya static kits for some time since other companies like DML have been offering more choices, so I don't know if they raised them then, but as Karel47 mentioned, the FO 1/16 kits haven't gone up at all. I know about 10 years ago I got my Tiger I for just under $600 and that was after months of searching (and stumbling across an amazing deal) and the M4 was well over $500 IIRC.

we'll that doesnt really explain everything...I dont know for you in europe...but here in Canada, the oil price is dropping...so I cant really explain that raise with that argument...the barrel havent been that low since a long time...

RE: Tamiya increase

Yeah but Tamiya is based in Japan, and I believe manufactured in Singapore and the Philippines. Japan's had a tough stretch, post earthquake. I'm not surprised if they're feeling a pinch.

Besides, styrene prices will lag behind oil a bit.

RE: Tamiya increase

it is timeframed as the tread of a war in the middle east will be taken as a reason of higher prices ... it is just a reason to raise the oil prices ... no real need of it ... part on our gouverments who see a cheap answer to level it all up for easy taxes

RE: Tamiya increase

I'd be guessing but I don't believe it will be much and therefore, a deal breaker. I mean, 10% would be 70 bucks! Doubt it would go that much higher and at that price would be only shooting themselves in the foot.

Probably no more than would one would pay taxes on the thing, so if you can afford over 700 bucks ...

... what's another 30 or 40 then?

RE: Tamiya increase

I received an email from one of my eBay customers and they said that they believe the increase will be "our guess is about 5-10%", so if that's a deal breaker for most ... get the kit you've been wanting for that is the scoop. :D

My biggest worry is the increase is on the electronics. they have been steadily creeping up for some time now.

RE: Tamiya increase

According to the OP its stated the increase will be across the board on all kits and parts. And I agree, even on Jason's store I have noticed in the last few months for both the DMD and MFU an increase of around $70.00 for both.

Just my 2 cents, in 2006 KT was sold on ebay at 460 dollars, now its price is 630-650 USD.

RE: Tamiya increase

through the past months you saw raising the prices to from the Heng Long tanks, every new item had a higher prices ... compare torro's metal ones with the tamiya prices ... lets hope the raise will be minor

We are either moving into the main stream or regressing into an even bigger niche market. The later will not be good.

girltankette 06-13-2012 10:18 AM

RE: Tamiya increase

Received the new prices from tamiya and from what I can see so far there will be a 6 to 11% increase on almost all of the tamiya tank kits and parts. Some items have not been effective and a couple even went down. No explanation of why the increase, which is no big surprise. Unfortunately we will need to increase our prices alsodue to the fact that our price increase out ways the amount that we make selling the product. We will do our best to keep prices reasonable so that you the customer gets a good product at a fair price as we always have done.

RE: Tamiya increase

11 percent isn't less but not your fault eitherway , as i earlier stated it was on the way, the chinese kits raised every time they got out new ones ... so the better brands join the train also ...

thanks for the info karen,

RE: Tamiya increase

There can only be one (well, one more then I have now).  I have a Tamiya King Tiger along with a few HLs and I am trying to decide between a panzer IV which is a newer kit and the allure of a Tiger I before the price increase. Being a long way from the nearest tankers in Colorado it would be nice to have something to shoot at that can shoot back.  Anyone with comments on which would be the better runner?  Does anyone have any plsns for an IR target to shoot at that would register hits?  From the roasting stepps of Wyoming.  jot
