These folks are wonderful. It is a German firm ( duh ) however their site is easy to use. They have hex head screws in sizes difficult to find; plus they sell taps for them...
Their products are simply wonderful http://www.knupfershop.de/shop/index...64&cp_tpl=main Two orders I've made with them and even though they didn't know me they sent the order first and the charge came with it. They have M 0,6 hex heads which are tiny. Closer to home there is Morris: http://www.jimorrisco.com/index/group/id/10 I purchased their 0-80 and 00-90 hex head screws and they're wonderful And the old standby Coles' Power Models: http://www.colespowermodels.com/index.html Coles' over the years has saved my bacon with their 1-72 hex heads in steel Jerry |

Yup, me too. Try threading 00-90 holes in aluminum. I'm shaking in my boots when I envision trying to thread even smaller ones. The other night I was threading a 4-40 hole ( large for me) in a piece of raw tool steel for a fixture I'm making. First hole went perfect. second hole was nearly done, abundant lubricant. Wasn't using a threading attachment on the mill this was freehand. Actually I do all small threading smaller than 8-32 by hand as the small taps need to really be felt as they're working. Machine torque is too great. Anyway a tiny bit of torque, and I mean I barely touched it and *snap*. Oh I was PO'd. I usually will take the time to remove it if possible. The remains of the tap are now a permanent part of the assembly, a rolled pin will complete the alignment as the one good screw is sufficient. But annoying? Oh yessssh. I believe the tap was fractured but it just wasn't visible. speaks to a good rule of thumb. Toss a tap if it doesn't cut well or seems off. The fixture? It will be used to punch the two holes in .005" thick steel to make the safety clips for the 8 hub bolts on my jagdPanther's roadwheels. This is why everything takes me so long. A sample: Jerry |

ORIGINAL: Tanque :D Yup, me too. Try threading 00-90 holes in aluminum. I'm shaking in my boots when I envision trying to thread even smaller ones Jerry Doing 0-90 bolts and screws are easy, ya drill a hole twice as big as ya need and superglue the bugger in.......it works for me! :D Go ahead and hate me........ My current project has 198 brass screws on it, 1/72 and 0-80 (and a buncha rivets) ......all of them glued in. I'll post some WIP photos today. Seriously, using small size taps has been a nightmare for me all of my life. And I have a workbench with every size "easy out" ever made to prove it. Rex |
