Need Information Help

Hello

I amready to paint my first tank. I have a Heng Long 1/16 Tiger 1. I would like to paint it in the colours MOST LIKELY that the allies would have seen while fighting through France. Can anyone show me pictures of the most typical colour patterns. I don`t know of specific unit`s colours so I guess I will pick what looks good to me. I am not that focused on specific groups BUT the overall look of the Tank.

Thanks for the help.

George

Those are great sites to read, Jim. It seems you are searching for a camo style and colors tha suit you. Unforunately those sites do little to show how best to duplicate a Western Front tank since the photos are mainly black and white. Color pix and plates are best found in some of the better books. Tigers on the Western Front is the best ...IMHO. I have several copies of East and Western fronts.

Hi Buckeye36

Thanks for the link BUT another dumb question, the link only shows one side of the Tiger 1. How do you see across the top and front and rear and other side for the pattern?

George,

Most of the patterns were done by the crews in the field. If you continue the colors over to the top and other side, front and back whatever you do should be OK. There was no specified pattern on most of them. Some later war tanks were camouflaged from the factories though, and they followed patterns.

If you wanted to be completely accurate with having a Tiger in Normandy colors then the Heng Long Tiger may be wrong as it is an early Tiger, or you would have problems finding one to model after, if there were any survivors. By 1944 it would have been more likely that the Tigers were mid or late production Tigers, which has been well documented off Wittman's Tiger 007.

Wasan makes a mid production Tiger that you could consider.
