New Tank in 1/16

I have seen posts on builds for Cromwell, Char B, Churchill and a few others but realistically what do you think would have more universal appeal ? I'd like to see the Italian Fiat M-14 and the Semovante variants but realistically I think the universal appeal of a British tank would make more business sense, such as a Churchill or Cromwell. What do you think would make the best choice for a new 1/16 scale tank ? Lets hope the model makers pay attention to enthusiast forums!

Or a Matilda, Valentine, or Grant would be cool, but like that's gonna happen. Seems the money's in releasing tanks already released by other companies, releasing previous releases with minor changes, or releasing metal versions of models you've already saturated the market with. In other words, the least effort, least imagination, and least risk possible.

If an obscure tank is a money loser because of its limited appeal, then please explain the Sturmtiger, and to a lesser extent the Bulldog?

Mike.

If it is to be a British tank, I believe a Churchill Mk.III is the one to produce. Many, many versions of the Churchill was made and is truly a WWII British tank.

Churchill!

And I actually think someone might do one in this scale. Between Hooben, Tamiya, Trumpeter, Taigen, and Heng Long (and now, Panda!) someone is bound to at least offer a static kit that could be modded.

Now that my Cromwell is off the desk (mostly), I'm turning my attention to one of my favorite tanks - The Valentine. Hoping to get my build happening in a couple of weeks!

I agree British....that seems to be where the biggest demand is and I'd have no problem with a Chruchill/Comet/etc....

C'mon guys,
If we're going British (which I hope one of the manufacturers finally does) then you gotta vote for the quintessential British Tank. It may have been outgunned and under armored even against the Pz III, but no other British tank had better lines than the Crusader III. Make a kit of that and I'll drop my coin quicker than Hen Long can copy another Tamiya model!

For what it's worth, I believe the Cromwell is in the same 'league' as the Sherman, Panzer 3-4 as far as historical matchups are concerned. The Churchill as well.

The Crusader & even the Valentine to a degree were outclassed when the war started, remember some people care about how many shells a Sherman could have put through a King Tiger in IR battles ;)

Many tank models could be made but not satisfy everyone. Japanese tanks are very neglected and for a non tank oriented Army, a couple of the boxy rivet cans did OK. The heavy-medium Type 89B and medium Type 97 Shin Hoto Chi Ha were the mainstay of the Chinese Army in the early 40s and after the war many captured tanks 97s from Russia. At war's end, some pretty potent tanks such as the Type 5 Chi Ri had been developed but were held back for home defense and never entered combat. That would be an easy remake from a Pz IV. I did a conversion from Pz III to Type 97 a couple years ago and everyone liked it. Some really nice Italian models have been made and very well accepted.

Early Russian multi turret heavies would also be welcomed....after the Centurian and Crusader. Outside of total scratch builds, the T-28, Tortoise or US M-6(T-1) would not stand a chance of being produced.

Be nice to see something other than another KT or Sherman.

For my taste there are many good tanks could be offered and I bought them no matter the price. But the most lovely would be the Centurion.... any version, but the Israeli one with the last engine deck would be a best seller, of course.
Most of the WWII Russians and Gemans are well covered, but a M60, a T72... o man!!!!!!!

Valentines could take a pounding, but unfortunatley they had nothing to give back. So at the end the result was the same it just took the Germans longer to get it there.

If we could get T-62, T-72, Centurion, M-47 and M-48s made available, a lot of middle east could be covered with easy to convert mods and upgrades from Israel and Egypt possible.
