Troubles are not over..

In an amazingly bad stroke of luck.. my Tiger l has destroyed another transmission gear as you will see in the pic attached. Just got these in today and had high hopes. Drove amazing for about 30 min but that's when I noticed the lurch when turning. Considering the hardened steel gears from ETO Armor. Seems that will be the only thing that is gonna last. I don't even drive it roughly. I am careful with it even though it has been alot of places. Anyhow it has broken teeth off the brass gear and flattened about 8 others. Needed maintenance anyway. Guess I'll get to that now.

That's really odd - I have four Tamiyas, one of them is a Tiger and none of them have stripped a gear like yours.

It's on the same side as well. It stripped the original unit as well as this impact unit. All on the right side and both stripped gears are in the same place in both units.

Something ain't right in there. You need to check all your wheels and your idler for binding and check the drive sprocket for broken or bent teeth. Are you using metal tracks, and if so, whose?

PanzerAce 01-04-2014 10:15 PM

I just reassembled the tank. All roadwheels moved freely as did all the idlers. Checked alignment before I dismantled it and it was all near perfect. Sprockets are fine as well and their teeth are in mint shape. Not sure whats going on but it destroyed that gear on the test run. Same side , same place. No clue at this point.

Again, metal or stock tracks? Is one of the track pins sticking out of the inside enough to snag the hull as the track moves?

PanzerAce 01-04-2014 11:51 PM

Stock tracks and in fact have yet to break a link on them. All pins heads are flush like they are supposed to be.

I was going to bet it was a track pin also. I had a trick pin jam on the side of one of my 1/10 tanks ( JagdPanther ) when I was running
in the lowest gear at nearly 3/4 throttle. The result was all the engaged gear teeth from a module 1 steel gear being sheered ( ?) off
and a 12mm steel shaft bent. Quite annoying.

Could it have been debris? Do you have the 3:1 geardowns? Mine always failed in that manner when I had gear downs fitted.
