I finally did it, JS-2.

I've been eyeballing this thing since it was announced, but couldn't justify spending a grand on a 1/16 right out of the gate. It was just a number I couldn't justify.

Well sometime after midnight on Monday (makes it Tuesday I guess) I set up an account on Banzai Hobby to see what it would cost. Before I knew what I was doing, it was ordered.

$804 (USD) including Attack Tx/Rx, shipped. It arrived today, two days from Japan to NY.

Very Nice!!! So it really does come with a Futaba raido!!! Is it a 2.4 Ghz? Wow for $804?? Did that include the shipping?

ausf 01-17-2014 10:41 AM

Yep, yep and yep.

It doesn't say Futaba on it, it has Tamiya's logo, but it's an Attack with all the identifiers, so I'm sure Futaba is making it for them. With insured EMS shipping, it came out to 83,700 yen, which was $804 when I bought it. I was figuring a good ten days or so, but when I checked tracking today, it was Out for delivery. It left Japan on the 15th, arrived on the 17th.

I still have a few things I need to finish first, but I'll be jumping on this one soon. I see a lot of Apoxie Sculpt in my future, gotta go nuts to get the brutal cuts and welds of the real thing.

Yeah mine is stuck in customs - just had to pay the £115 charge - what a rip-off - not sure if I got a good deal from Banzai or not now.

Congrats on the purchase. I have my crosshairs on a static Leopard 1..that I want so fricken bad...If I pull the trigger, I think my wifes gonna shoot me.....

Congratulatins on the purchase !

MAUS45 01-17-2014 12:35 PM

You will need an Apoxie Sculpt cake to finish that beast off. Some of the photos I have seen of the KV and JS series make it look like they didn't care about a smooth surface or neat welds. Just roll them puppy's out the door!!!

Uh ! the Attack radio used to be an AM transmitter. If it is 2.4 it's not an Attack. If it is an Attack it's not 2.4

ausf 01-17-2014 02:20 PM

Yes, I have the old AM Attack radios myself, the ones with the meters on the front. I bought my first Futaba back when I had to go into Manhattan to get them, no other shops imported them, well before the internet. That said, this is a 2.4 Ghz Attack 4YWD Tx and Rx packaged exactly as it would be from Futaba in a molded poly carton, not like anything else in the Tamiya suitcase.

Congratulations on your new Tank ;)

Congrats! It's a good kit to build for sure! Just be mindful of the type of plastic in an individual sprue, they use both styrene and ABS, but it's listed as to what it is on the back of the sprue letter plate.

Here's Yevgenyi's link to a good sight for the IS 2:

IS 2 is in the bottom section as you scroll down on the left.

Thanks for the tip and links, I bookmarked them the other day from your thread.

Yeah, I got hoodwinked by the ABS/poly mix on the Pz IV build when my roadwheels separated after using normal styrene cement. It was right there in the instructions, but I don't read that until there's problem. I'm glad you reminded me, because I probably wouldn't remember this time either.

I did the same as you with the magnets on the Pz IV, no way was I going to unscrew those things every time. I also hinged the upper with the IV, but I don't think it'll work on this one.

Looking over the kit, it's very nice as expected, but I'm surprised a bit by the size compared to the Tiger I. For some reason I expected this thing to dwarf the Tiger, but it's actually narrower and a tiny bit longer. Of course that huge canon will make a difference.

Thanks for the input and encouragement guys, there are enough great build threads on this beast, but if you're interested, I'll post the cosmetic work.
