Just a question where do you guys buy your Servos for recoil or elevation

Hobby king every time. Cheap and do the job!

I agree with Tom. HK for Rxs and servos all the way. You can't beat the price and service. Just make sure what you order is in stock and if you keep it light, their airmail service usually gets to me in under 10 days. I think my last order was 4 OB receivers for something like $23 shipped.

Some some reason, people hammer HK, but I've never had a failure of their stuff yet or a bad experience. If my tank was at 6000 feet and a mile away, maybe I'd go with Futabas, but otherwise when I can get 12 Rxs for the price of 1 Spektrum, I'm going that route.

I always do the HK shipping dance. Every product lists the weight and adds it up for you. If you need to add to keep under the current level, say 100g for $2.99, you can add Turnigy chips, servo extensions, adapters, plugs, etc to hit the target. You'd be amazed how many things they have for a buck or two that would save you time and money.

If you're buying servos for recoil, definitely get at least one Turnigy chip so you can set the speed. I just threw one on a servo I hooked up to my Tiger I MG, so the gun slowly rakes right to left when you fire, then slowly moves back once you stop.

I can concur. HK radios and receivers are great for Tanks. I use the Hk T6A that has 6 channels with 5 and 6 being fully proportional with rotating knobs. For my DBC3 equipped tanks this means I can use channel 5 to control gun elevation with a servo and channel 6 can be mixed to run a recoil servo when the gunfire is activated.

I don't know why anyone would bother with the Factory upgrades to 2.4 gHz offered from Taigen and Heng Long.. The HK T6a is a far better radio that moves you in to the proper PWM standard and away for the proprietary signals that are used on the HL or Taigen tanks..

I can understand the concern if I was flying a $12,000 jet, but for a land based slow moving tank that is typically within 100 metres, these HK radios are more then adequate. This is the radio I decided on when I sell packaged units of DBC3/TBS/receivers to customers who just want a completely plug and play experience. It allows me to program the radio and the DBC3/TBS combo into a simple drop in electronics package. I have never had a failure of the radio or the receivers in this time, and in fact my Spektrum is the radio that is having issues with the potentiometers right now.

So yes, you can buy the electronics and servos from HK with no fear.

I will always recommend the Futaba 4YF for RC tanks. The newest 2.4 version is under $100 and is money well sent. I regularly give away NIB 75 Mhz 4YFs when I sell a NIB Tamiya kit. I used to buy the 75s for under $100. I'd get half my money back by selling the servos, RX battery & hardware for $40 to $50. I still run them and they are super. I have a transmitter for every tank I bring. The second pic is Danville last weekend. I brought 19 tanks down. Three were drop-offs for customers and five were picked-up to come back. I do indeed have one Hobby King radio. It works fine. I got it for free from a customer on LI who wanted all his tanks and radios to work exactly the same. But the Hobby King is indeed very cheaply made. If you drop it...it will shatter. The HK case is very flimsy and thin. The plastic is brittle. The Spectrums are super, but it is like buying a Corvette to deliver the mail in RC tanking terms. I love the Futaba 4YF. They never fail and are durable as hell. I have seen many that were dropped and bounced. Dinged with a scratch or two... but they worked fine. And that was on concrete, not dirt. You get what you pay for.
