Will an emitter work through paint?
 

Hey all,

I have a question with regards to an emitter firing through paint. I'm working on my FT project and I'm trying to find a good spot to mount the emitter. My preference would be right below the gun inside the recoil cylinder. I would like to have it recessed 9mm but it would also mean I'd have to cut off the existing end from the model and replace it with a clear plastic cap. Could I paint this new cap (it would look ridiculous to leave it clear obviously) or would that block/dampen or weaken the IR signal going through it?

i don't know what can or can't be done with emitters.

It is light energy that our eyes cannot readily see. It can got thru a light coat of paint but will be very weak. Don't paint it. The Impact IR can be seen with the naked eye but just barely. Most of us test our IR beam with cameras before we leave the bench to go into battle.

Yea, paint will kill the IR. Maybe paint up a cap to put on while she's on display and taken off for battle?

actually some colors will just reduce the effective range. Generally you don't want to paint your emitter though

IR can pass through a whole host of seemingly opaque items, including the PVC plumbing pipe, but any coat of paint will block it.

Can't you work the emitter tube into a gun sight or coax MG?

Thanks all for your comments and advice. Benny I may do as u suggest and just have a cap on it while on the shelf/bench and pull it for battling. I have such little room to place it anywhere else although the turret hatch is another possibility! It would just render elevation useless.

Ausf, unfortunately the telescopic sight is too small although maybe firing through a smaller hole would be better than shooting through a painted cap. It's a 37mm short barreled gun so it would probably be more realistic! LOL

Not a bad idea Ksoc! I forget the apple more times that I'd like to admit at the start of battles!
