Heng Long Sherman question
Hey Fellas, I have two quick questions about the gearboxes in HL Shermans - first, will high/low motor configuration fit? Second, do they use 48mm or 58mm axle shafts?
Thanks in advance. :) |

The HL Sherman does come with the high/low gearbox with short 54mm shafts. Taigen gearbox will fit as well. I am using Taigen 4-1 GB in the Sherman 75mm.
1/8 aluminum with .080 styrene and 1/16 aluminum sides. Taigen 4-1 gearbox and 12x8 bearings on the hull sides. The Sherman will have 75mm gun Merry Christmas and all the tanks come your way http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2055911http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2055912http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2055913http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2055914http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2055915 http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2055917 __________________________________________________ ________ HL Pershing x 3, Sherman 75mm, Tiger1 x2, PzrlV x2, Pztll x2, Stug.lll, Jagd/PantherG, KT(P), KV-1b, Leo 2A6M Tam Sherman E8 and more to come you can never have enough toys |
Thank you, Bagheera. 54mm? I thought they only come in 48 and 58? I recognize the gearboxes in your photo. Did you put in the black steel gears yourself? I've done that to a couple of boxes myself. Not all Taigen boxes come with the brass gears for the fourth shaft so your lucky to have those, and that looks like zinc on your axleshaft? If I could find steel axle gears I could improve a couple of my boxes. Thanks again.

Good info on what fits in those pictures. Looks like you're using the short motors that come with the brass gearboxes. Might be able to get Speed400s in there, but it would be tight.
Where's the build thread on that Sherman? Looks like some great work that should be shared in more detail. ;) |
Your right the number is 48mm. don't know where I got 54, I guess I miss fire. The fourth is brass(I don't like for gears) The zinc is all I have at the time. Zinc gear on a small shaft. All the steel gears are on long shafts. Need a press to press the gear off and on the shaft. The Taigen gearboxes was zinc and I switched it out with HL steel. Switched out the motors for the short can for space saving. Normal size cans will fit but it's a we bit too close together. Motor wires too close to the other gearbox.
I had a brass gear in me offroad RC car and the gear lasted 1 day of racing. 2 hour endurance race. |

It's good to meet someone else that's working with gearboxes like you are. You don't need a press to remove those gears. Here's what I use. The block is made of steel and is available at any industrial supply store, ask for milling and inspection blocks. They're not very expensive, but you can also make your own with a block of steel and a drill press. I just drop the shaft into the hole and use the small hammer to carefully drive the shaft through the gear and off. The shaft in the photo will get a new gear for the boxes I'm sending to Old Fatman. It will still be zinc, but at least it will be new. :)

That's nice we jig there, I just use a vice. I think you do need a press for the steel gears. Tried using on the steel gears and it wouldn't move an in".
The is why I used the small cans, a we bit more room. The right pic Taigen 4-1 steel with high torque motors fir my Pershings (now I have 3) Here's my new add on 75mm and mantlet http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2056108http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2056109http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2056116 |
