Airbrush questions
 

Hey guys,i ve been using a badger single action airbrush to paint my tanks with and im getting ready to upgrade to something more high end to do a higher level of work with ,i would welcome an sugestion as to what model badger airbrush would be suitible for this ,thanks for your time.

Are you set on Badger? Iwata is what i'd recommend. I have an HP-BS Eclipse that I use most of the time, but it's kinda fine for big tanks. I also have an HP-CR Revolution that has a wider spray. They're not the cheapest airbrushes, but i've had my Eclipse for at least 10 years and it's still going strong. Worth the cost IMO.

edit: I got my Revolution from amazon. It's under $100 there, so not too bad.

I agree. I've tried them all and IMO Iwata is the best. My HP-CS is also a little fine for something as big as a tank, and I've been thinking about getting a siphon feed for the added capacity, and when I do it will be an Iwata.

It has the option of a one ounce siphon feed bottle and though an ounce doesn't seem like much, it will cover an entire tank with an airbrush.

Paasche also make very nice brushes and are slightly more affordable than the Iwata's.

A few times a week, I use the same Iwata I bought over 30 years ago (HP-BC2), all original, nozzle and needle. Two years ago I bought another, just so I could have a quick color change gravity feed for figure work. It's the exact same design and quality, no drop off after 30 years.

Whatever you decide to buy, look at Chicago Airbrush for price and service, unless you're sticking with Badger and can find it at Micheals with 50% off coupon.

Hobby Lobby has the Iwatas and they have the 40% coupon. Here's a link that will always get you 40% at HL. I visit this page every time I go there. Got it on my favorites bar. :)

I used a Badger 200 dual action before and it seemed just as good as my IWATA brushes. I really think air supply is big factor.

That's probably true. I like Iwata because that's what i'm used to. If you take care of any airbrush, it should be fine. I think the OP might be ok with another badger since he's already used to the feel of it. Whatever you do though, make sure it's a double action.

K thanks,wanted to stay with my same compressor and hose to cut costs some ,thats why i was looking at badgers.

Do you have a tank or tankless compressor?

Its a tankless Compressor ,why is a tank better?but i do have an air pressure regulater mounted

It wasn't my comment, but I don't think it really matters for most hobbyists. The only real benefit of a compressor with a tank is it's not running the whole time you're using it. I don't paint for long periods so it's not much of an issue for me.

have the TRN2 trigger air brush and its good. Its made by NEO for Iwata. I also have there regular airbrush for finer things, I find for RC models that we fly you need a medium/large detail brush to cover larger areas.
I also have the IWATA Rg3 and Iwata LPH-80 mini spray guns to cover large areas when painting warbirds

I use a tankless compressor. Although it said a tank provides a consistent even flow of air. I can see that could be the case since I do see my pressure drop on 1/16. 1/100 not an issue. I was just wondering because you have had some knowledge on the topic.
I also think the additives like flow aide and a retarder are bigger variables when it come to the spray and how it lays.
