My 10 year project

Yes, this Sd.Kfz 231 6 Rad was 10 years in the making. Not 10 years in a row, but I started it 10 years ago and only spent a day or two on it due to a trip to the hospital to deal with a heart attack. That was bad timing and inconvenient for my project, but I got to take a 3 day vacation in a very expensive medical resort getting some rest and relaxation. So I put that box of hobby parts on a shelf, and concentrated on rebuilding some of my critical body parts instead.

I recently did some spring cleaning and found that dust covered box and figured maybe it was time to finish it (before I'm finished). Originally it was going to be R/C, But I guess I used the R/C gear and other small parts on something else ...... there were only 10 tires left in it. So I got busy and built this thing. After I clean up a few details, some grey paint will be applied. But I only have 4 shades of grey to chose from - not 50 shades of grey. I hope it doesn't take 10 years to paint, as I have 17 other builds ahead of it "that just need paint".

Wow ..... If I had seen his first I would not have built mine. His is built better and more accurate than mine and I like his paint job too, I may steal it .

Finally ------ the paint dried on my 10 year project, so here it is. The V1 rocket has nothing to do with the 6 RAD armored car, I just threw it in for fun. it is a 1/16 styrene rocket kit that I bought a few months ago and I built a trailer for it.

Another great piece, Rex. Tell me more about the V1? Are those kits still available and where can I find one?

First of all, the V1 is 1/18, not 1/16 --- my mistake. It can be found at Hobbylinc.com in the airplane section. It is item 8803 --- $15, Pegasus makes it and it is a great "snap together" kit, no glue needed and the parts really fit together well, no flash, only 8 parts.

The only thing I could think to do with it was to put it on a trailer so it would look like a captured weapon recovered by Operation Lusty, the U.S. Army Air Force captured weapons recovery team that collected stuff for research. It was just a fun to do.

Thanks, Rex. I knew about the 1/18 kit, but for a minute there I thought you had found one in 1/16 and got a little excited. :)

I really like the trailer, and I may add that to the constantly getting longer list of things to copy from Rex. :)

That trailer is totally bogus, it never existed in real life. I was surprised at how big that V1 was in 1/18 scale (18 inches long). I'm going to claim that my model is a 1/16 version of a V1 that was built shorter at the end of the war due to the difficulty of getting enough materials to build a full size one.

I wonder how hard it would be to lengthen it? The model airliner guys do that frequently to get airliner variants that aren't available in kits. With the wings stowed like that you could easily hide the fact that they're a bit short. Of course, the width of both would still be small, but one of two ain't bad. :)

I didn't watch it.
