DX5e for Taigen

I have a chance to get a dx5e mucho cheep. It seems to be a superior unit to the Tx that came
with the Taigen JagdPanther that just arrived. What can you tell me about it?
Will it work with the Taigen receiver? Binding? I do not plan to do any battles, IR or otherwise.

Grateful for any info, straight talk is hard to come by.

AFAIK it won't work, the Taigen TX/Rx protocol is proprietary.

(You should still buy it if the price is right tho, as its a darn good radio)

Edit:

Also to add - you might not be interested in battles etc today, but this hobby does kind of grow on you ;)

If the price is right then grab it. It will run a clark or an IBU if you ever upgrade the board. Of course, I use the HK 6 ch and it works great and it's only 30 bucks each. Just ordered another one today in anticipation of the new Jagdtiger. :)

And I ordered a Mobius! Woo Hoo! :)

I got two of them and like it well and you can remove the ratchet mech and add a couple springs to make it both self centering and guys here have added fire buttons to it .

Now I can take video from the commander's cupola with the wide angle lens and bore you all to death with videos of driving around my little village. :)

It's a good radio to start with hobby grade electronics, I have a tough old one as a backup that's been working great for years. It will not work with any of the built-in tank systems, like Taigen or HengLong 2.4 systems as said above, you'll have to eventually take advantage of the aftermarket or Tamiya electronics available to full see the benefits of a digital radio, and there are many :)

Max-U52 07-31-2015 04:05 PM

Wait, wait, I forgot something. You CAN use that radio with the stock electronics if you use the RC2TG from RC Tanks Australia. The RC2TG is a plug in board that works with the stock Taigen MFU to give you tank control with a hobby grade radio. Kevin also has the RC5HL that works with the Heng Long RX-18 and does the same thing for about 40 bucks.

Welcome aboard! That thought will plague your tanking escapades forever!

If you were going through the full battle and IR route I'd suggest taking up arms with a Clark system, or it's counterparts. However Max's suggesting might fit your situation neatly!

The best advice I have is what I wish I got to avoid a lot of unnecessary steps throwing money away.

Try your best to figure out where you want to be, just a better Tx? Better sound? Better functions?

Each upgrade has different options and not necessarily more expensive, just different or better paths.

By the way, a lot of people start out saying the don't want IR until they have two or three and get bored just driving around. Battling raises the enjoyment of these things exponentially, and you live in an area with a few tankers around.

Here is an invitation for you P.A. I'm new at this too. But, I have a couple of tanks set up on IBU2's with hobby grade radios. I also have a Tamiya JS-2. My HL/Taigen Jagdpanther and JS-2 both have Tamiya Battle Units installed. You're welcome to come and drive anything I have so you can make some decisions based on what you have seen and tested. We can even do a little battle with the two tanks set up on the TBU's.

Terrific, Joe. Some things are keeping me near the ranch right now. I am going to have to decline your most generous offer.
That much fun would probably kill me. Oh well.

OK, whenever you're ready.
