Tamiya help needed
 

I'm putting together a Tamiya kit and have a couple of minor concerns. When I push the right stick up, the barrel depresses and vise versa. When traversing the turret, it hangs up at the 3 and 9 o clock positions along with the 5 o clock position. I've tried placing lead weight on top of the turret to counter balance that long heavy barrel but that doesn't seem to help. Any ideas?

The elevation thing is a servo thing. You need to reverse the servo setting on your radio that controls that channel.

The Tamiya rotation set up is the one design weakness(IMO). Ensure everything is engaging properly and lightly sand the turret locating tab to remove the hard edges. Try a little graphite powder on the sliding surfaces.

I am not sure what tank you have. The bigger the turret the more likely the problem.

It's the SS kit. I've tried reversing the the channels and that didn't help. I know that sounds odd but it didn't work. I thought maybe the person who put the elevation unit together may have soldered the wires incorrectly but revering should fix that also. I'll take a look at the tabs and sand as you said, the graphite sounds good too. Thanks for the reply.

Sorry about the servo suggestion. It was early, and I have pretty much switch to servo elevation on things now.. The Tamiya elevation unit is just a two wire motor. Reversing the wires on the motor poles, should fix the problem and get the elevation sorted out.

You are using the Tamiya DMD / MFU combo?

With my js-2 kit the elevation was wired in reversed out of the box. I had to reverse the wires on the motor.

Also on the turret problem make shore the wires are not getting hung up I use plastic ties to keep them grouped together if you had the Pershing the hull is cramped so you have to use good wire management .
I have also used lithium grease on the bottom of the turret it helps if you have the King Tiger or the JS2 you may need some more weight in the back of the turret to off set the heavy Barrel pulling front off turret down .

Go to the tamiya site and get the manual for your tank. I suggest you first set the radio so all the trim tabs are zeroed input directions are the same. Then do the setup procedure.

Before hand make sure all of the wires are connected to the same color.

The battery wire on the SS likes to get hung up on the turret wire bundle unless you tuck the connector in.

BTW where did you get the sherman?

Thanks, the more I think about it, the more I think that is the problem.

I recommend graphite powder as it does not attract and hold dust and dirt like grease will. The microfine powder is great lubricant.

the manual came with the tank kit. I should have said early on that it's the Super Sherman Kit. Your idea about the battery connector may be valid, I have the Y connector and the battery connector sitting on the sponson.

The kit came from Banzai.

The word graphite has me a little nervous, OK to use around electronics????

I think my SS was reversed and I just flipped the direction on my controller. I then soldiered the main gun switch to the correct pins to allow it fire without moving the stick.

My JS2 is reverse also but I don't care since aircraft are the same. Push it down /pull it up kinda thinking.

I too use inverted stick controls. Tanks, planes, video games... My friends think I'm weird...

A lot of guys, myself included, have elevation set so forward is down and back is up, because that's how it is when you're flying. When you push the stick forward you go down!

The elevation hasn't worked right out of the box. I just found the reason, one of the gears on the elevation motor is missing a couple of teeth. I thought that the aluminum arm was slipping on the shaft all of this time. I've ordered an elevation motor from Artistic Hobbies.
