Oh no, that's the mucho expensive age. Tuition can be a real killer, eh? And car insurance ain't no joke either. Now I'm amazed that you do as much tanking as you do, Greg. You must have a good job. :)

Yes, college is putting a dent in my RC tank budget.
I like this figure build thing because of the low cost. I have needed to be clever and use cheap stuff to do tank details. Today I made a plastic trash bag to ride on my Abrams turret. The materials were free, a plastic grocery bag. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2116116 |
I love that trash bag! What a great idea!
Do you really wanna save some money and still have the fun? You can build a figure for me if you want. I'll send it, I'll even include return postage, you can build it and send it back and you'll have a little piece of Colorado on display right here in Detroit. :) Don't be shy, either, I just bought eight freakin' figure kits so it's not like I don't need the help! Of course, I won't let anyone else do the kit with the horse, that one's just for me. :) I gotta find a 1/16 scale panther (yes, the big cat). What an awesome mascot he"d make for my tankers! |

OK Gary, here is my entry. I'm pleased with the way he came out. I wish my photos were better.

That really looks great, Joe. How did you paint the gun? I need to get that weathered, used look.
|
Thanks Gary. I used Tamiya Gun Metal and a fine brush on the gun. Though you can't see it, the grip is done in the same color as the shovel handle. It is a thinned Burnt Umber.
|
The first of my figures is done, painted using mixture of Vallejo and Tamiya paints. Used an airbrush to do the black jacket and highlights and brush painted the rest.

Wow. That looks just great. Is that how the figure came or did you piece him together? And if he came that way, where'd you get him? From a Tamiya kit, maybe?
|
That looks great Tom! I am also curious about that figure as well!
|
|
Thanks for the link, sure wish we had cool stuff like that more readily available to us here in the US.
|
That's a great site, but they're pretty expensive. Just one of the reasons I'm trying to learn to make my own accessories. They want 5 eur for a barrel!
|
Wow, those two are cool. I like the TC pose. I guess I was napping when the race started, I better catch up!
|
I'm way behind, too, Greg, but somebody's gotta bring up the rear. :)

Well, I haven't gotten a decent figure ordered yet, but I needed to paint the ol' Googley Eyes from Taigen for my Tiger. So I figured I would post it up on here until I can get a worthwhile "entry".
This was my loosely followed inspiration. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5766/...771fd932_b.jpg Started by gluing the arms to the position I wanted them in based on where his hands fell on the tank, then puttied the seams around the arms. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5660/...a2181fa5_b.jpg Also removed the paint from the face to try and see if there might be any more detail under some thick paint.....not so much. Next I applied the basecoats to my camo pattern using a tri color of light brown, medium brown and dark green, https://farm1.staticflickr.com/771/2...cd877926_b.jpg Then of course the dotting and detail paint. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5653/...1bd222a0_b.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5822/...f12156b1_b.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5730/...5cf0ea3a_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/639/2...18d1f055_b.jpg I am very anxious to get my hands on a figure with some defined facial (and body) details, you know, one that has eyes, ears, hairline...that type of thing actually in the molded detail...lol. |
Ryan, I don't think I've ever seen Ol' Googly Eyes look so good. :)
|
I agree, you made him look great.
I have the US dude that came with the Mato Sherman, perhaps I should dig him out of the parts box and fancy him up too. |

Well, then, Ryan, here is the crew for you (and me, too, real soon)
https://www.scalehobbyist.com/catago...a=6&ct=3&sc=16 And here's a photo of what that link leads to https://www.scalehobbyist.com/images...000959_0_l.jpg THREE figures for under $25. Check out the rest of that site, Scalehobbyist and you'll find another crew with four figures, as well as a great selection of 1/16 figure kits at some of the best prices goin'. They have great filtering at that site, and with a few clicks you can narrow it down to just 1/16 figures and even to just tank crews. Let me know what ya think, and keep an eye out for a new thread from me later today. You might find it interesting. :) |
That may very well be the way I end up going, thanks! Its a shame they hardly have anything for US tanks.
You get your T5 in yet? |
|
Oh dear! you have us out numbered.
