Does anyone know the voltage that the standard Tamiya lights run on? For a Pershing.

I asked the same question. Could never get my lights to turn on because I hav digital trim dx5 transmitter. Was going to hook up lights to a battery but never got to it.

I have a Pershing set up with a DX5E as well and have no problem with the lighting. My issue is I am not using Tamiya electronics and want to use a pico switch on a separate channel to turn the lights on and off.

Tamiya's opt port is 7.2v and if I recall correctly, the Russian light harness had resistors in it, so I'd imagine they are straight battery voltage as well.

I wire all mine with LEDs, whether it's a Notek, Bosch or convoy and just go with 7.2 on the calculations.

I assume you're talking the bulbs like on the M4, best bet is to throw a multi tester on it.

I use the lights on most of my Tamiyas as an indication that the switch is on (opt port), but if you're looking to go through the board so you can turn them on/off (or brake lights on the Russians), you can just assume a max of 8.4 volts (fully charged battery) and go from there.

Ok, so if I was to use them hooked to a pico switch I can hook straight battery power to one side and then ground side switch through the pico? For some reason I thought they worked on a lower voltage.

You can with LEDs, I have no idea regarding their bulb system since I haven't seen one since my first M4.

If using LEDs, just google led calc and you'll get sites that you just plug in the numbers and they tell you what resistor you need.

Yea, the led would be no problem for me. but this tank has the Tamiya bulb system installed already and I am planning to use it as is...

For poop's and giggles Joe, try running them off your RX if you have a channel open. Servo connector with just + and - to RX, from RX go red to pico, from pico red to lights. Black would direct from RX to lights. May only need 5V and no extra battery. Only issue maybe the BEC on the control board if your using any servo's? May draw too much and slow your servo response. Just an idea.

A digital transmitter is even better. And you always can use one of the switches for switching the lights on and off. Of course machine gun and cannon too.
