Wire handle modding
Hey All....
I have a question.. maybe someone can answer... I want to start using wire to make hatch handles and hand rails for 1/16 scale Armor etc.. What size should I be looking for? Thanks, Joe |
I use brass wire. .025 , .032 , .050 etc. compare photos of subject thickness to a figure hand and pick the wire that looks appropriate.

Yeah, what Rich said.
Whether you order or walk into a LHS, the K&S brass rod is inexpensive and has countless uses on tanks, so just get every size you can. It may be easy to keep track of to buy the metric but whatever floats your boat. |
Great thanks!!!!

You can also use copper wire this bends easily and can be made to look as though they have been damaged in the field depending on what the handle is for sizes will range from .5mm through to about 1.6mm

Micro Mark makes a nifty little bending jig. Works much better than the calibrated eyeball. Perfect handles, every time.

Very Cool.. Thank You all... Joe

Another option is to read the build threads. Some of the original posters give information like strip width, wire size, part dimensions, etc. Sometimes, I'll just try to match the size that is already on the model in plastic if it doesn't seem too out-of-scale.
